I'm looking for some "RED" handle material. I need a piece 4" x 1 1/2" x 1 1/4". I've got some micarta that was sold as red in catalogs, but it's more of a wine color. I NEED RED!!! Anybody know of a source? Thanks.
Tom

Tom, if it's Micarta you want, try,
Angus-Campbell, Inc., in SoCal.

They sell every kind of Micarta ever made, they even have that white with red layers, that look like a peppermint candy when ground.

Tom,
Try Sheffield Knifemakers Supply. Ann had it in red linen and it is pretty red, not the burgandy stuff.

Sheffield's also lists red G-10, and if it the same color as the stuff that has been on the trainers that I have seen, it should be plenty bright.

Take care.

Andy

OOPS!! Shame on me! I didn't pay attention to the actual size you needed until after I posted. Needless to say now, but i have never seen G-10 in that thickness. And looking at Sheffield's catalog in front of me, their thickest micarta is 1-1/8", in slabs or blocks, nothing that is listed thicker. But I have a feeling that you already knew this before you posted, otherwise you wouldn't have needed to.

Good Luck.

Thanks everybody. Does anyone have a web site address to Angus-Campbell Inc? I'll call Sheffield's tomorrow.

If you want to try something different tham Micarta, try some Amazon Bloodwood. The stuff is strawberry red. Makes a real eye-catcher of a handle. It's fairly dense and takes an almost glass like polish.

Try a piece of Red Jigged Bone! Got Mine from Pop's Knife Supply, It''s actually pretty cool. And it's RED!!!

My oldest son has been in the US Coast Guard for almost twenty years and I'm making him a knife with a handle the same color scheme that's on all the USCG boats and planes. I need bright red. I've got both bloodwood and red jigged bone, but they aren't what I need. Thanks everybody for the imput. Help!!!

Here's what the red G10 looks like:

Actually I should say, this what the scan I just did makes the G10 look like. I have a new scanner and haven't gotten the hang of it yet. The G10 is much brighter than this picture appears and the pieces are much better looking. I'm going to have to play with this new thing some more...

I'm looking at a picture of red G-10 on the back (inside)page of Sheffield's catalog now and it is much redder than the scan. That may be the ticket right there.
Good Luck with the search!

Thanks everybody. I e-mailed Sheffields as Kit suggested and they had some. That stuff is getting hard to find, so I ordered several pieces.
