I am sorry - I want to order a clip to be put on my Alox SAK but I cannot figure out which one to order.

Can someone post pictures of both of these clips so that I may make an informed decision?

Also - do you do replacement parts on SAK's? I would like a pair of scissors put in place of the flat blade screw driver.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure who to refer you to for tool replacment. Maybe knifemods.com would do that. I don't work on slip joints anymore except for pocket clips and sharpening now and then. Otherwise I stick with what I prefer personally which is the locking type pocket clip equipped one hand opening type folders you see all over my forum and in my blog. Those are my first love and the bulk of the work I do.

Anyway, the low rider sits the knife deeper in the pocket leaving less sticking out visible for onlookers to notice. The low rider, by nature of the 'fold over' does stand up higher off the folder. As a result of this the standard clip is more invisible in the hand, or at least mine are. I've found on smaller knives and particularly ones with less width to the handles that often times low rider clips do not really get along well with lanyard holes. Keep in mind that most of my clip work is done on production folders so I have to work with what is there. Of course you can design these things to work together if you were building your own folder from scratch but when you have to work with what is there already on a production of even a custom that did not have a low rider incorporated into the design you have to sometimes just accept that you need to decide which is more important to you, the lanyard or the low rider. On some the low rider blocks the lanyard hole either partially or fully and on others that still want the low rider it may not sit the folder as deep to allow some access to the lanyard. I don't like doing them that way, and I try to talk folks out of it but in the end its their knife so I do what is asked usually.

I don't recommend low rider clips with Emerson or Spyderco Waved folders. These folders come with the clip positioned such that it allows your hand to be just where it needs to be when you pull out the folder and when you lower the folder in the pocket guess what? It changes the position your hand is in for getting the knife out, changes the way you grab the folder to get it out and causes you to have to slide up on the handle once its out of the pocket just to get your hand where it is naturally with the standard clip that came on it. Even knowing this some folks elected to get a low rider on their Emerson even after I advised against it but thats my feelings on it.

Personally I have trouble seeing a low rider as something that looks good on smaller bodied folders. They stand up too high off the body or something and it just bugs me. I mean they work fine and all but to my eye they just don't really look like they belong there or something. I've never really quite taken to them on small knives. Just imagining a Buck 501 with a low rider kind of makes my skin crawl a little so maybe its just me.
