Bought in early '80s to use as a tool! I used it hard for about ten years before I retired it, but it still is in great shape! I don't even remember the model name!

Looks like a worker to me.
My first and only so far is a delica. They're great knives and I wouldn't mind getting another.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Dan- Yours is the 'Worker.' My first is a 'Hunter.' Purchased in 1987 shortly followed by a 'Police.' Still using both today. (Except the serrations are getting short in the tooth... Or is that long in the tooth?!?!?)

My first Spyderco was the Worker also but in a serrated edge. Great blade design especially for delicate work. Too bad I couldn' t find a plain edge model at that time. It was retired soon after but still has its healthy teeth! Anyone want to let a plain edge one go?

Lureman - early "Worker" model. Our first Clipit model (1981). Sold them mostly through demonstrations at Fairs & Shows. Didn't know at that time that there would be any more.

How many screws are used to hold the clip? Are the scales of equal thickness?

Sal:

I loved this knife the moment I saw it at the Indiana State Fair! The clip has three screws and the scales are not equal.

My first was a Worker too, purchased from the Cutlery Shoppe in mid '80s. Carried until recently - Still a great knife.

My first Spyderco was also a worker....Spyderco serrations....three screws..... steel type not stamped on it. Still as sharp as the day you gave it to me, Sal

I just sent my first spyderco back to get sharpened I am scared of doing the ser blades
I love that knife and it is quit old. it was a delica.

Mine was a serrated Worker. The stamp on the tang just says Spyderco (not Spyderco U.S.A.).The scales are the same width.

My first Spydie was the C16PS Goddard model with the micarta handles. The overall appearance appealed to me and I got a lot of use out of that knife. It was my first exposure to one handers and clip carry. Though now it sees the inside of my display case more, it still remains one of my favorite Spydies

1st was a Delica98 50/50
2nd was a Delica98 full plain edge
3rd was an Endura98 full plain edge

The Delicas are cute & very functional but the Enduras are the correct size for a real knife. I love my Endura , my Delicas are just sitting around while the Endura goes with me everywhere I go.

A knife , a flashlight & a pistol
Three things I am never without.

My first was an Executive. I looked at the Hunter too, but never got one. Probably was a good choice, as the Executive is still in daily use (after what, can it be 15 years?).

My first Spyderco was Ladybug. I bought it to put on my case keys. I used it to trim price tag string tails in my job. After about two days I was hooked and then bought a Delica. The 3rd one was a G-10 handled Large Terzuola. I didn't buy a Worker until after I had about 30 or 35 of the others. It is a ATS-55 and is very sharp. I use it for stuff around the house and in the yard when I mow.We get a lot of Trumpet vines along the fench and the worker cuts right through them. The only problem I've had with it was the tip broke of about a 1/16" while I was sharpening it on my old 203 sharpener.

First was a SS Police, second was an early production (serial numbered) C15 Terzuola Clipit.

Lureman,

The knife in your picture is the knife I pulled out of my desk about a month ago. I bought it back in the early 80's and carried it every day for several years.

Mine shows a little more ware than yours does, and has a slightly shorter blade as I managed to snap somewhere between 1/16 and 1/8" off the tip. The pivot pin on mine is a little less visible, and the four assembly pins are a little more visible. The only markings on the knife are "SPYDERCO-USA" and "SEKI-JAPAN" on the blade, and "US AND FOREIGN PATS." on the clip. Mine is also 3 screw clip and unequal scales.

Mine was bought from a tool retailer in Vermont NIB in the very early 80's.

Sal,

Do you by chance remember what the blade steel in these was?

My first was also the Worker, which my wife saw me ogling and fondling at the county fair in 1985 I believe, and slipped back to purchase on the sly. I used and abused that knife and finally managed to break its dirkish point, butt not its spirit.
The gracious Danelle remedied that during my visit to the Spyderco nest in Golden this last August. I recommend making any accomodations in your travel plans to make that stop. (Maybe Sal will do his famous Military Quickdraw for you.

Anyway that was my last Spyderco until a year ago last Sept when I retired and found ebay and saw a Viele up for bid. I won the bid and Bruce of Bullman Cutlery turned me on to this forum. No turning back now.
The wife wants me to count all my knives. I am stubbornly avoiding that. Might require some justification or at least rationalization.
Keep the temptations coming Sal, I need the practice at resisting.

My first was a SS handled Mariner, fully serrated, that I bought at a fishing show in the early 80s. That knife is still working it's way after all these years, just not with me, a friend has it and uses it daily.
Sometimes I wish I'd kept it, just for the sentimental value!

Black Bladed fully serrated endura. Great knife. Use it boating and camping. Cuts tough stuff like a champ!

My first Spyderco was a gift from my friend Jerry in Florida in 1989. He had been a Spyderco fan for years before then. We were getting ready to move to Washington State in a day or two and he pulled it out of his pocket and gave it to me. Lots of sentimental value and it reminds me of him and his family when I carry it. I think it is a hunter but I am not sure. When a close friend of mine moved from Seattle to PA, I gave him my new Worker. Keeps the cycle going.
