Anyone here ever do that? How does it feel (balance, etc)? Is there enough metal to make a poll, or would you recommend leaving it on?

Thanks!

Sell it to one of the zombie hunters and buy a poll hawk from Steve at coal creek.:D

the lighter the head relative to the handle, the greater the vibration in the handle. are you looking for a particular effect?

Actually, I was trying to make a lighter, faster fighter. The only reason that I wanted to leave a poll on the back is for balance (because the head itself is so long); otherwise, I'd remove it completely. Is that not a good idea for this tomahawk?

Also, how does one get in contact with Steve? I Googled "Coal Creek Forge"; but there wasn't a direct website listed, just mention in a couple of forums. Does he have a site?

Thanks!

Steve just finished a hawk for me. It is outstanding! Here is his email - ccfms@sbcglobal.net

He is also fast on responses and making sure the work is what you are looking for.

i wouldn't worry about the balance in that axis, just cut the spike off, though it won't be quite as good for some types of work on wood it will be faster as a fighting hawk, but of course then you lose the spike...

IMO, Steve IS the man. Did you ever see the Hudsons Bay trade ax he "just banged out" after someone posted a pic of one?? That was the turning point for me, The man can make anything. Look at his shop, all made by him. He's a great guy to deal with on top of his skill.

Best regards

i wouldn't do it.

the balance will be worse and the tracking will be terrible.

the VN style head itself is pretty inferior to most other spike hawks IMHO - i am not sure why it was ever a hit.
