I only wear my Micra when working in the city as my SAK and other multi-tools are too large for the "office casual" look. Now I'm heading back to work and I can't find it. After checking all the usual places, and still convinced it will show up again some day, I went looking for a replacement...
Of course, I could have gotten a smaller SAK, but I already carry a small folder too, so I don't really need the SAK knife. The thing I really liked about the Micra were the scissors which were a little heavier duty than even the larger SAK scissors. Of the other Micra tools, the eye glasses screwdriver, bottle opener and nail file have proven occasionally useful. On the other hand, the tweezers are pretty useless...
I went to a few local places so that I could actually look at and handle some of the small tools. The one I liked the best was the Schrade "Tough Chip", I suppose a mini Tough Tool. The scissors on this thing are twice the size of the ones on the Micra. Almost big enough to be tin-shears! The knife is about the same quality as that on the Micra (I use that least though) but it locks, as do the two screwdrivers! There are also a toothpick (nice addition), decent tweezers (better than SAK tweezers), a bottle-opener/glasses screwdriver, and a much better nail file!
I've played with this for a day now, and this is one very nice tool! Only real problem is that it is a little more than twice the size of the Micra when closed which will make it somewhat difficult of pocket carry in my city clothes! I'm hoping my habit of hanging my keys (the tool goes on my keyring) inside the pocket from a strap looped around a belt loop will do the trick here and keep the tool from tearing the hell out of my pant pockets.
Any of you gone from Micra to Schrade or vice versa? What do you think of them comparativly?
Since no one has responded, I'll add this as an edit, but I have discovered that...
1. The "glasses screwdriver" is billed as a "small flat" and indeed, it is a little too wide for glasses. I may modify this.
2. The nail file makes a great ferrocium rod striker. Its spine is somewhat roughened, and so makes lots of sparks.
