I received a email from Spark today that he is going to combine the custom knife forum with the collector's forums.

This means that this room will no longer discuss (exclusively) custom knives. I asked for the position of moderator to help promote custom knives.

Over the last 10 months I have gone to great lengths to keep this room strictly custom. As I felt BladeFourms in it's current cofiguration had enough other places to discuss factory, antique and other non-custom knives.

In my response to Spark I indicated to him, since they are combining the rooms I will be resigning as moderator.

I wish the new room and it's new moderator(s) all the best.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

I'm sorry to hear this news. Your input on the forums has great value due to your position as a long-established dealer, and I hope you'll continue to share this knowledge as a BF member. Thank you for your efforts as moderator, an often thankless job.

I am really sad to hear that. I have alwais appreciated your work as a moderator and your postings, Les.

From my perspective all I can say Les is Thank You for a job well done. I learned a lot from your posts and hope you will continue to post on BladeForums.

Thank you for sharing so much of your time with all of us as a BladeForums moderator.

Good luck Les, you're a wealth of knowledge and you did a grand job.

Thanks

Les, by now you know the respect I have for you. I for one have learned more from you about my passion than any other person I have dealt with. I will miss the information that you constantly share here.
My best regards and respect,
Gus

Larry, you can read my response in the other thread, I posted it there first.

If you want, I'll be more than happy to send you all of the emails that were exchanged back and forth. If you look at the time that the emails were sent, compared to when the posts were made, you'll see that any hidden agenda is not on my end.

Why don't you just get rid of the collector's forum, hardly anyone goes there anyway. I do not even really understand the premise. It's better than losing Les as a moderator.

Jason

We are indeed considering getting rid of it entirely.

Les's decision to leave was entirely his own, and we had no part in it at all. Him getting fired up and quitting was something we were trying to prevent from happening in the first place, that's why we emailed him asking for feedback and suggestions.

Instead, he chose to resign his position out of the blue, and that is his right. Again, his resignation was the last thing I expected to see when I opened the forums this morning, especially considering that nothing had been done yet, and I found it to be a rude shock to say the least. In fact, I strongly suspect that the only reason he did so was to try to start just this sort of controversy, but that's neither here nor there.

We fully support him in his decision and wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do. In the mean time, we are still in the process of looking for the additional moderators who were going to be joining the Custom Knife Forum staff in the first place, and I guess we've now got one more slot to fill.

VERTICAL SPACE/SCHMERTICAL SPACE-IF YOU WANT TO SAVE SPACE,WHY DON'T YOU ELIMINATE SOME OF THE FORUMS THAT ARE NOT VISITED AS FREQUENTLY?FOR INSTANCE THAT STUPID SUGGESTION BOX!-GIVE ME CUSTOM,OR GIVE ME DEATH!

The Suggestion box is going to be combined with the Tech Support forum. We have a list of forums that are under review for combination and or elimination site wide.

The Custom forum was never in any danger of leaving as it has plenty of traffic and is producing very good content.

Les-

I for one hope you still join in on the discussions. As someone that(at a minimum)states their opinions and is involved in the business, I find your perspective very useful. See ya around.

I was one of the members who personally pushed to have a Collector's Corner and I have to admit that it doesn't have the traffic to really justify keeping it.

I guess things change and move along. I for one would be OK with the Collector's Corner disappearing. The Custom forum is a must though IMHO.

Les possesses a veritable treasure trove of insight on custom knives. When he resigns, we all loose.

I agree with Greg; the custom forum is a Must! While it seems that about 95% of the other forums are mainly concerned with factory (dare I say it?) junk, this forum covers knives that truly have "heart." I have a difficult time understanding how so many people can claim to be knife lovers, and yet see no further then cheap production toys. If you truly love knives, handmades are the way to go.

Yes, I know that I frequently overstate my opinions, but not this time!
