Hey I'm still new enough around here to not experience this quirk of today - where it seems that old, several-year old posts, are all of a sudden bumped back up to the top.

Is it somebody who did some sleuthing in searches and started replying to them?

Is there an artificial intelligence - conversation generator, that recycles old threads?

Is Rod Sterling involved?

Just curious....

Ahw, yes and funny how them old topics seem pretty similar to what is posted in the now. I almost replied to a 4 year old thread where Skammer wrote about those thin mora blades :)

Ya know, I have to admit....it's really nice not having "Mr. Know-it-all" around! :)

Honestly I did this once...:( I am and should be ashamed of myself. I went searching instead of posting, found an interesting thread, and posted without checking dates...:thumbdn:

Within reason (i wouldn't want to resurrect a really old thread) I don't see the problem with this. Why start a new thread if one exists that discusses the issue you are interested in?
Yesterday i searched the Buck website looking for details on their rebladeing service for Buck 110's. Couldn't find any info. I did a search here found a two year old thread discussing and showing pics of rebladed bucks.Unfortunately there was no ordering info or links. Normally i don't revive old threads but i posted there anyway asking if anyone knew if they still rebladed and if they had any appropriate links.I figure the guys who posted there are the ones who would know the answers to my question and they are most likely still on the email notification for new posts in that thread.

I also don't see any problem resurrecting an old thread. Almost all the topics in the forum are repeated over and over, anyway. Part of the reason for this is new people join the forum and haven't seen the previous threads. And this can be a good thing because a new member might have something to add that was previously not known.

I do know that some people don't come here any more, because of the constant repetition, but that's going to happen in a place like this, and if you just miss that 1 important thing ............................

Doc

Well I wasn't really complaining, it just seemed that there were about 3 or 4 of them yesterday and it threw me off guard.

Recycling of issues has to be expected on forums. Kind of like talking to my mother. She will tell you the same story thirty times a day if you let her! Besides, you are never the same person the second time you enter a debate.

Personally, I like resurrected threads. You get more perspectives, and it's interesting to see how people's outlooks have changed over the years.

There are some threads here that become tiresome to anybody who has been here six months or more, such as:

"If you got thrown out of a helicopter and landed in a jungle, what would you....?

"Do you like my new PSK since I added lanyards to it...?"

"Should I use orange or desert 550 para...?"

"What is the perfect survival:
knife, orange yellow or red handle (and I HATE it when my blade gets tarnished)
whistle
mirror
garbage bag
petroleum jelly cotton balls, yes or no?
shoe, tent, backpack
let's not forget the word "perfect" and should I bring my GF/wife?"

I think Preacher Man should next come up with a tee-shirt with all this stuff listed on it :D

LOL, thanks for the memories ;)

I've noticed this too, seems to be the same person digging up all the old ones too. Strange...

I don't necessarily mind old threads; what gets me is when the person doing it either...

(a) Says "I agree" or something trivial and nothing else.

(b) Fails to read the thread first, and then makes a point or asks a question about something debunked about 12 posts in... indicating he never read the thing.

If you're not gonna read the whole thread up to the point of your post, I'm not going to read it forward.
