In ZDP-189! Yowza! Love that splinter picker. I've been EDCing my comboedge Jess Horn lately and the thought of better bladesteel admittedly crossed my mind, but ZDP? Double whammy.

Here's the specs in PDF format. Hopefully someone can publish this in html. This is, after all, the twenty first century. ;)

I might have to get one of those. I love my burgandy Calypso Jr., but I hate the tip-down clip.

Not just the Jess Horn ... There's also a sprint run of the Copilot in VG-10. Black Almite handle ... :D

*sigh* And I really thought I might as well slow down a bit this year. But I've got to get at least the Copilot. I really, really like short blades for everyday carry.

Interesting. I gave away one of the originals to a knifeless friend. Turns out it's pretty collectable. Hope he knows...

Sweet. I had heard about Spyderco using ZDP-189, but I did'nt know that it was laminated with 420J2. I love laminated blades, ever since my Fallkniven A1. I just might have to check this out.

I wish it was not the FRN version. I don't like the "Jess Horn" text texturing. I would have never guessed either the co-pilot or the horn would make a come back.

Was totally surprised, but quite happy when I saw the flyer. Have all the existing Jess Horns, so it's a sure thing one of these will find a way into my display case.

Agree that it almost seems odd, especially considering the runaway success of the ZDP Caly Jr. and the demand for the ZDP Delica, that Spyderco seems reluctant to use this "high end" steel with anything more "classy" than FRN.

Then again, I've already started "imagineering" ways to customize one or two of them. STR's work on the Salt I and Calypso Jr has made me realize that some options I once considered far-fetched are possible. Even just a lamination of very thin wood grained formica (or CF for those who like it) on both sides would neatly eliminate the clip and improve the looks of the handle.

And who knows, if this one takes off like a rocket, perhaps a year or two from now there will be an all stainless or butterscotch micarta "Baby" with a full flat ground blade.

I just have to get one of those Jess Horn Lightweights, with the ZDP-189!! OH yeah!! Thanks for listing the sprint runs! i didn't know they were out either!!

It's not odd at all considering the profit margin for old pre-designed knives, overseas production and the inherent cost effectiveness of FRN knives coupled with Spydercos overall marketing strategy for sprint runs. If K-Bar can sell a FRN Dozier with AUS8A for MSRP of $20, think of the margin involved with the CDP Jess Horn at a MSRP of $100?

I'd imagine the margin isn't as great as you might think...I get the impression ZDP isn't that cheap as a raw material.:p

Also I tend to agree with the Deacon on this as usually one reason a Sprint run is done is to test out a new "X" factor...in the Jr. Caly it was ZDP. Now that ZDP is proven to be desirable to the buying public, it is indeed odd that we have three Sprint offering of ZDP and not married to anything but FRN...

Although I tend to think the Deacon's statement is just one way to voice his call for "higher end" handle materials. He is a champion of that cause after all.

It will be mine, all mine! Nuahhahahahahahhaha!! Oh man, I can not wait to get my paws on one of those JH's with ZDP 189!!
