Did any of you ever go into a store to peruse their Schrade leftovers and spy a really nice one, say... a stag Duck Stamp Sharpie...only to be told without looking that it sells for a Franklin? Then, you buy their last 158OT for $20 out of revenge? And the revenge is all the sweeter because it is a carbon blade? Didja? Huh? Well, I just did. And I feel so bad about taking advantage of Buck's Lumber Company in Scott's Hill Tennessee.

No but I did feel like I got screwed when I paid list price for the last two OTs I bought at my local hardware store. The same models are still selling for less on the bay.

Well Upstream, you just need to do what I did when I played the silver bullion market. It is called "averaging down". Say I bought a silver coin for eighty, another at seventy. One fifty total, or seventy five average. Then I keep buying them as the price drops. I end up with two dozen at an average of fortyfive each. Total of a thou eighty in. When the price rises to sixtyfive, or seventyfive, I sell. I still come out ahead by seven-twenty. You need to buy more Schrades at cheaper prices to average those two down. Like the 8OT I paid eight for. Those deals make the others look better.

I knew I must have been missing something. It all seems clear to me now.
I need to buy more knives.

No,Codger, but I just happened to check the Schrade knives that were about to close on eBay and found this item:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7204698253&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1

Since there was only a few minutes left,I couldn't check the shipping cost ahead of time,so I violated one of my own rules and bid it anyhow!
I figured a mint Codger Favorite (897UH) and a 167UH for that price was too much to pass up.
I've been watching the 167's and they've been selling for more than I can afford.
Merry Christmas,Folks

Yes! By buying more, you save money! Now you've got it! I only wished my wife understood it as easily! Here is some inspiration! Check ebay # 6584575157 !

That is a bit$h, that looks alot like the 197OT that I was recently outbid on.
And by the way, that looks like a good deal on that set Relodr36, the 167 alone has been going for that much.
Thanks Rick

I'm glad to see you guys acquiring some Schrade favorites, and at good prices to boot. I almost bought that same set, but passed. I'm glad you got it Relodr36! Excellent deals are still out there, you just have to search. And be willing to pass sometimes when something you want more is available at the same time.

Well, they say "revenge is a dish best served at Buck's Lumber Company in Scott's Hill Tennessee." :p

Nice find. Wish I could find 158OTs for a Jackson.

I just got the same set recently. You did good at that price.

The seller charged $20Can for shipping, which should pay him for materials and mileage to the postoffice, but the total damage was only $54 US.
Paypal takes their cut on currency conversions,as you know.
I'm satisfied as I've seen used knives go for that on the bay. It'll probably end up as a gift.

Although I'm a bargin hunter on ebay, I don't mind paying MSRP for a new Schrade from a local source. I've mentioned a few times that the small store with the nice Schrade display I buy from lets me make small payments until the knife is paid off. Kinda like a interest free lay-a-way plan. Keeps me from busting the weekly budget and lets me get some nice knives, as long as I'm patient. This also lets me support a local buisness and helps me build a good customer relationship with the owner, which won't hurt if I get a windfall and go to buy several knives and want a little discount.

If you guys have a small, local source, you may want to see if you can try something like this. Its been working well for me.

Buy more Schrade's, buy more Schrade's, buy more Schrade's................. sounds like a new Zen mantra. :D
So I did!
I went to a Bimart store yesterday and saw their chitaylor Schrade's. I asked the clerk to check his back stock and see if he had any in the old blue boxes. He did and I bought a 143OT, a 152OT for $16.87 each ( is it possible to have too many 152OTs?) and a 147OT with black rubber handle for $15.98.
Also found to new in box 34OT in other store for $27.19.
I went to a Western wear store that I have been to many times before and saw a 36OT and had to get it also for $21.95.
Good thing I have most of my Christmas shopping done!

I have the sickness! :) :) :)

Merry Christmas y'all,
Dale

bought a avatar a month or so ago at a local hardware store thats shutting down for 20-25$ dont remember-its the blue insert one-liked it so much i took a look around and found another found one with black inserts and black blade, and 2 of the double blade smaller avatars, one all black(looks great)and one with black inserts and black blades-great work knives!

have a kershaw et due this week

Jeesh! you guys are intimidating! how is a girl ever to land a deal on ebay buying a knife when ya'll are out there scouting every knife there is. I'm eyeing a replacement knife for my dad's lost Schrade 832---but you can believe I'm not going to tell any of you which one. boy, oh, boy.
But! speaking of ebay and feeling good. Everyone hates getting out bid, but what I love about getting out bid is that typically I've driven the winning bid up so high, usually higher than I wanted to spend anyway...only for the "winner" to have to pay. It's kind of like sweet revenge. and you're doing the seller good.
I need to get a nice knife for my dad. I'm on a mission.

Well Kelli, most of us won't try to outbid someone we know is from SKCF, but I am fairly new to this myself and not familar with all the boards e-bay user names. (this was discussed in a thread somewhere, but I could'nt find it)
I'm sure the right knife will come to you in due time. I would not be suprised if we start to see a flood of knives described as "Wonda Wood" popping up on e-bay in the near future.

Good score ORVET, glad to see your keeping our local "employee owned" store in business. I like to scout the little town hardware stores, etc. too. Unfortunately, I usually end up paying their high retail for a knife I deem too pretty to put in my pocket! The quest continues...

That is what happened with the 34OT, it was a at a True Value Hardware store. I was hoping to find one at a Bimart so I could get it for their "new" chitaylor price of $16.89, but no luck. :D :D
