I want to thank fishface for the oppertunity to purchase this fine blade. I also want to thank Craig Gottlieb for his help in answering questions I had about the knife.
That done, I have to say that if this is the typical example of Gurka House Khukuri's, I will be ordering MANY more in the future. This blade is one of the finest I have purchased in my 45 years. The quality is top notch. Even the Chakma and Karda were very well executed. The sheath is very nicely done also. I was totally overwhelmed when it arrived in the mail the other day. All that was written about this blade was understatement. Please extend my compliments to the maker of this fine blade, I could not dream up a better knife.
Now the real problem. Which to buy next!?!? I am all confused. So many fine examples. I tend to favor tha larger the better principle. Any suggestions? Thanks again Craig and Fishface.

ArchAngel,

If you're among the "bigger is better" group I'd suggest the 16" AngKola as your next purchase. It's an awesome piece of equipment that's Rhino tough yet Swan graceful.

Tell you what I'll do; e-mail me your address and I'll send you my AK for a test drive for a few days. It'll give you a starting point to base your future purchases on and help you decide how much bigger or smaller you want to go.

This offer comes (of course) with the usual disclaimers stating that I will in no way be held responsible for your Khukuri addiction.

By the way, you have a real nice khukuri - I've just received an email from someone who wanted one. Question: did I say I wouldn't do a limited edition run of these? If I did, then I have to stick to my word. If I didn't, then I want to see how many people would want. Now that the design is "known" by TB and his crew, it'd be relatively easy to accomplish a limited edition special order of these. They'll be numbered, and will cost $150.00 delivered. Any takers?

Blackdog,
Thanks for the offer, I sort of made my mind up on an 18" Panawal. The Slab handle gives me the possibility of using some white linen Micarta that I have laying around to sort of dress it up. But who know's for sure. I may just have to buy one of each over the years. I have never really centered my collecting of knives on any one type or theme, other than usability. This might be a direction to strive towards. That darn Rieger has sparked something in me that I can't really remember happening in some long years. It feels like it has a soul all of it's own!
Maybe that is a reflection of the heart that goes into the making of these blades. I am not sure what the reasoning is, but this knife has struck me harder than any other knife that I have purchased in some years. Craig, in the paperwork that fishface sent me, it seems that you stated that you WOULD be having a run of these someday. They would be a serielized lot, as apposed to the two unmarked prototypes. I for one think that anyone wanting a fine and unique specimen of the Khukuri style knife would be well advised to jump on this bandwagon. You could not go wrong. It must be evident that I can't say enough good things about it.. I wish you all well.
Gurka House will definately be hearing from me in the near future!!!!!!!!! Later All

Hi ArchAngel, I have the other prototype and I agree with you. I love it. It gets fondled on a daily basis. TB really outdid himself. I just blued it and like it even better. I took before and after pictures but you can't really tell the difference picturewise.

Craig, does this mean you're not going to pick it up as a regular item afterall? I really want another one to have a user but 150 is a little steep for me right now

Here's the after pictures. Imagine an almost black blade:

OMRie,
I like the Black blade idea. I have a love for dark blades. Makes them seem more powerful and forbidding to me I guess.
I actually took my knife to work. At a High Tech Machine facility and polished the blade to a even higher luster, ( without removing the telltale evidence of its hand worked nature). I tend to be pretty darn good on the old Baldors and all that stuff is just there begging for me to use for home projects. iIt came out even prettier than it was. If that is possible. I also polished the small blades to high luster. I LOVE THIS BLADE!!
The one thing that I hate to do is coat the blade with oil while it is being displayed. I took the advice of a man that Ti coated a couple of swords I made years ago. He said to use car wax or a car polish. I have been doing this to my blades on display for years now and it works great. No dust or dirt collection, Makes them slide in and out of the sheath easier also. WellI must be gone now.. Good to hear from the man that sent in the design for this fine knife. Great feel and looks. See Ya.
