i can't seem to find exactly the sheath i want. i'm thinking about making it, myself. that way, it's specifically made for the way i want to carry.

i think i've just about got an attack plan formed. i just don't know how i'm going to rivet. i really don't want to buy $35 worth the dies and a press to make 2 sheaths.

is there some way to flare the rivets w/o the dies? or a cheaper handheld pliers style riveter available, somewhere?

NVMD - i hadn't looked hard, enough. i got it, sorry.

Tandy carries some rivet setting tools, everything from the basic flairing tool to the set of different size setters and anvil. I figure you might be able to get away with a flairing tool and hard wood base to flair the rivets against.

I dont trust the pliers, they are too prone to off setting and splitting the metal.

You are talking kydex right? :o Leather riveting is very similar as well.

I'll second the Tandy suggestion. I had a eyelet hand setter that I used on dozens of sheaths over the years. Cheap and effective.

Just the slightest touch of oil, even vegetable oil, to the opening of the eyelet before setting can help prevent splitting.

Oil! I'da never have thought of that! Thanks for the tip! :D

I'd go with the Tandy solution, if you are "on the cheap". That's what I first used way back. Now I use two foot presses, depending on which size eyelet is needed.
