I did two Arete's. This other one is convex saberground, and has a curly quartersawn Red Oak handle.

Rotte you picked a stunner, man.
That thing is gorgeous and I love the Osage, that's gotta be my favorite natural material to use and work with.

Stunning Andy.:thumbup::thumbup:

Now can we get Tal to fit it up with some pants?

(That 'vex saber-ground looks excellent too. ...Hmmmmmm......)

Man, those look sweet! I'm going to end up getting a scandi something like that some day just to see if I like it. I don't like Moras but it's due to the flex not the grind...never really had the chance to try a scandi on a thicker blade.

Hey - is THAT the ARETE I have in my hand?

HOLY CRAP - Can I just send you mine Rotte? Andy SMASHED this one out of the park. The fit and finish is AWESOME!

I was glad he had the chance to practice on a couple others first....:p

Your patience, both of you, made this a pleasurable project.

It is easy to see why Chainring suggested the Arete when I brought up the bushcraft knife. Truly beautiful pieces indeed! But being the camp cook...and at home...the Bushfinger and it's lower edge is still the perfect knife for me. I may have to get one of these later though if some things work out...maybe a scandi.

I love 'em both, Andy, yet that sabre grind is just dangerous!

:D
Mark

Its surely a helluva cutting tool. That edge is thin, and strong. Hard grind to do too. Never flat.

The convex sabre grind is amazing to work with. I absolutely love the way it slices cuts. Right now my three favorite knives all have convex sabre grinds. The only reason I'd even consider the scandi is because of the older tradition of them and I've never had the chance to check one out that had a thicker blade. I already know I don't like the flex of the Moras...but it's been some years since I used one. I really didn't give the scandi grind a fare shake because of me not liking the thinness of the blade to start with.

Andy - I think you did this pretty quickly - when you think about what went into it - with the prototype, the design changes, and how many you have made.

Rotte - you got the best so far - now I need to make a sheath worthy of carrying her.

I am excited.

Agreed. Andy, I really appreciate you taking the time to make the Arete the way you did. Seemed to progress quite nicely...and just look at the result!

TF -- Nice to see you back on the forum by the way.
