Is there a big difference? Should I spend the extra $$ for the pro? This knife will be an EDC carry for both utility and protection. I am very interested in lock reliability and carry weight and bulk. Thanks, Brian

Well as far as size for EDC, the large KFF is a BIG knife. I have a love the small CRKT KFF, and was planning to buy a large, but it was too big and heavy for pocket carry. You should definately handle it before buying.

As for lockup, I haven't had any problems, and with the LWKS its about as good a a liner lock can get.

As far as the difference between the Pro and the regular, I don't like to silver color handle for esthetic reasons, so opted not to buy the small pro. Others may be able to speak to differences in the blade steel.

I don't think there is any significant functional difference between the two knives. It's more a matter of looks. The Al handles look more like the custom Ti version. Not saying it's bad, just not IMHO a significant difference.

That said, I'm looking forward to the Al-scaled version.

i have the med KFF pro and zytel, and there is no differnce in thickness, weight, concealibilty - thought the pro would be thinner like the crawford kasper ti, not so - buy the one ya like best imho, they are pretty much the same .....at least in the med version ...

Thanks for the info Sifu. I was hoping the Pro would be thinner as well. I don't have to even think about it now.

hey rogue, it might be a LITTLE lighter, but not enuff to matter imho, not the med version anyway.....and all other specs are virtually identical, i have measured lol...i thought they would be thinner/lighter after reading ads about how much better they conceal compared to the zytel version, i dont honestly see how, the only diff is looks, and the pro does look better imho, but not one iota more functional....worth the price?? i guess if ya like the looks, niether one is very high anyway

According to a recent thread from the "What' s New" forum, I believe our own Dexter Ewing informed us that the liner lock of the KFF Pro model was RECESSED from its respective scale. In terms of mechanics/ function, there is a big difference for those who intend to use it hard. The recessing of the liner will help to minimize inadvertent unlocking of the blade. The original polymer model has the liner PROTRUDING from its respective scale. This may be one of the reasons the Lawks mechanism was installed. If the liner was recessed, as is on the Pat Crawford original handmade model, then a Lawks would not be necessary.

I think a titanium handled model should be offered to reduce the weight for EDC but it would be more expensive. I don't carry my zytel KFF because of the weight.

Dennis,

I wondered this myself. According to the blurb on 1sks's page, is uses AUS-6M; like the others.

according to the specs that i've been able to dig up, the only difference between the kff professional and the kff is the Al scales. weight, steel, and dimensions all seem to be exactly the same.
i do wonder whether it changes the balance point a little bit, but i imagine the difference would be negligible. the kff is one well-made knife.

i carry the small kff as part of my EDC (the large looked and weighed too big for pocket carry), alternating w/ a crkt production large point guard and a bm 43 balisong, depending on what i'm wearing and where i'm going.

i'd guess that it all comes down to personal preference..

anyway, good luck with your decision. i'm sure you'll be happy with either purchase..

My distributor lists the Pro model as having AUS-8. Can anyone say for sure?

Well then, I'll have to think about this a little.

I told myself that when CRKT strared using AUS-8 or better as a blade steel I'd buy a KFF. Guess I have to get a Pro version now.

I think I'd best wait till I have taken possesion of my coming Wegner and it's had a few weeks of glory. Sure glad to hear CRKT's upgraded steels though, at least in this model.
