Anyone have a CRKT Lightfoot M1? Like it? I'm wondering if the flipper would interfere with the drawstroke. It looks like it might hang up in your pocket.

Thanks for any info,
Clay

I had one, before I traded it off.

It was too heavy for my tastes, plus the blade was an illegal length for my area, and it was tip down.

Good lockup, though.

The flipper was nice, but I just couldn't get used to using it (same goes with the M16s). It's just a personal issue. And the thumbstud is just about useless on that knife, I don't think it's POSSIBLE to used them to open the blade.

It's a great knife, if you want a wide, beefy, heavy, durable knife. Got to love the blade style.

Me, I carry lightweight, compact.

Handy, stong knife. Flipper does not get in the way of drawing from the pocket and the thumbstuds or flipper work fine to open.

good knife. typical crkt quality. well made.

handle is a little too thick,IMHO.

My opinion of this knife.. its great. I like it a little on the heavier side, it feels solid gripped inside the fist. Only drawback I see is the comment about the thumbstuds, I can't open mine very easily with the thumbstuds, I always use the flipper. The flipper doesn't get in the way, I configured my for tip down carry in my right hand pocket.

I'm with zerObytes on this one.
I've had mine for a few months now and I love it!
It is a little on the heavy side; but built like a tank.
The handle is a little thick; but very comfy.
I own many quality CRKT models, the M1 has to be #1 or at least up
there in the top 3 or 5 IMO.
The Thumbstuds do not work to open the knife, unless assisted
with the flipper. I don't use or even try to use the thumbstuds.
The flipper works so well you will forget all about the T-studs
not working.
The detent is heavy enough that I have had 0 accidental openings.
This is the first CRKT knife that I feel safe enough to carry
in the Tip-up position. All typical carry positions are possible
though: Tip-up or down,Left or right.
All in all one of the best CRKT's produced yet.

i think the detent in the closed position is the only thing holding this thing back from opening with the thumbstuds.
Is there any way to file that down a bit or is that not a good idea? In the open position, the lawks on this would keep the liner from sliing over.. I dunno, just an idea cause I'd like to open this either way.

IMO if the detents strength were any less than they are,
the flipper would not work as well.
The amount effort that is necessary to over come the
detent is just enough to open the blade fully.

Sweet!

I can used the Thumbstuds, but I have to use my
index finger to over come the detent while my thumb
is on the stud, and finish the opening motion using
the thumb only.

This method is much more sheeple friendly!
;)

All you folks carrying tip up watch yourselves.

I will no longer carry any folder tip up after several knives have stuck me in the thumb trying to retrieve them when the tip had opened slightly in the pocket.

Last time I ever carry tip up I stuck my thumb good. Stabbing yourself doesn't seem like the result I was looking for in carrying and training in knife defensive tactics.

Consider yourselves on notice. Old man Murphy is always just around the corner waiting to bite you.

the detent is fine to open with thumbstuds. but I think I gained some finger strength trying... I still like it. fits nice and weighty inside my fist.

So now I have this tip up, I'm confident this will not open up on me knowing how much force I need to use opening it by the thumbstud or flipper.

Does anyone have pics of the custom and production M1s side by side?

Thanks,
RL

I put some grip tape on the clip of mine HAHA! I'm going to see how that goes for a while. It actually looks ok like that, dunno why else I'd want it like that other than a different feel on the grip.

well that grip tape was on there nicely for the clip, but I don't like the feel. bad idea.

Maybe you should try making some new scales for it.
I have been pretty sucessful with Textalite or Bakelite.
What ever it's called it's made similar to G10 but no glass,
making it a little easier to deal with.
I recently finished what was a Kershaw all black aluminum
model. I used Textalite with burnt orange color and changed the out line at the rear of the handle. So that I could mount the beltclip
for tip-up RH carry. It came out really nice :D . We're talkin'
spring assist and all:confused: .
Actually the blade is parked closer to the middle and it is faster
than it was prior to my modifications  .
Hey if you don't like the way the new scales come out
you can always retreat to the factory ones and try again!

Did you carry it with the blade pressed up against the pocket seam? i.e. for a typical righty knife, in the front right or the left rear pocket?

Those are the only "safe" places to carry tip-up as the blade is held closed against the seam.

Here is a picture of my modification to my M1-03k clip. I used 3M black grip tape after cleaning the clip really good and then trimmed around the edges. It stuck on there really good and looked nice in my opinion. The shiny look on the tape is due to the light reflection, there really are no "sparkles" or whatever in the tape like you would see on the surface of a skateboard.

that picture sucks taking it out..
