RR spike source?

Look around RR tracks for ones just lying around. Often rather than lugging a few dozen back to the yard, they get dumped by the side of the track at the end of the day. You want ones with an HC stamped into it. Also the torsion bars from some American made cars work well too. I know MoPars used torsion bars up front. Old us truck springs are good too, but you have to beat the spring memoery out of em first which can be a PITA. See if there is a local shop that makes springs for cars and or trucks. Usually you can buy the scrap for pennies a pound. Or you can just used any old RR spike but use a bit made from a known carbon steel, like a file or some other piece of tool steel.
Also, you will need a drift to shape the eye to. You're on yer own on that one.
