Do any of you guys know where I can get a quality larger capacity mag. for my Ruger Ranch Rifle?

Ruger is selling 20 rounders to the public now, though the demand is so great that they never stay in stock long.

It seems as though most suppliers are out of these mags. I checked a few sources, including Ruger. If you find them, grab them.

Ruger will allow you to backorder them from their website. They will bill your CC when the mags ship. They've been running somewhere in the 3 week range from what I understand. Oh, and they're on sale for 30 bucks instead of the usual 40.

Ruger mags are the way to go, but I have had good luck with a couple of the ProMag 10 rounders.

Ruger's price is back to $39.99. You can't go wrong with the factory mags.
I've also had good luck with ProMag 10 rounders.
For some reason, many of the aftermarket mags for Mini's are not good.

Yes, direct from Ruger is the way to go. You may have to wait a few weeks until they're back in stock, but it'll be worth the wait.
There are a lot of cheap aftermarket mags for the Mini, some work, some don't.

be sure and get ruger brand mags the off brands are very 'iffy' i have 5 off brand ones myself, 2 work 100%, 2 dont lock the bolt back and one wont feed hardly at all, while all my ruger brand mags (3 20s and 2 30s) are 100% no probs.

Makes no sense that the other makers can't seem to make a decent mag...how hard could it be?

Evidently it's pretty hard, since so few seem to have gotten it done. I'd like to have a Mini30, but I have yet to find a large capacity mag that works reliably. If Ruger would just make 20 rounders I'd have one!

I agree 100% with your comment.
Many manufactureres make AR mags and do a great job, but no one seems to make a good AM Mini mag.

It seems Ruger is making 30 rounders now as well. The one I saw advertised was $95.

The mini 14 has been out for about 30 years. Certainly not the top seller, especially after the patents expired on the AR, but geez it is just a magazine.

So what are decent after market makers for the Mini-14?

Pro mag is usually ok for stuff but don't know or have experience with their Mini-14 mags.

I've had the Ruger mini-14 (x2), the mini-14R (Ranch), and the mini-14 (7.62x39 x2)...my experience has been that good mags are extremely hard to find - and well worth their weight in spent brass!

Buy factory, and/or look for a reseller that sells used factory mags (CDNN)...the local good guy here is Hahn's Sporting goods. (406) 755-2696‎

A former local LEO, the owner seems to have the inside track Ruger mini-14 connection with regards to Montana State Corrections Facilities trade ins...minor wear, with arsenal upgrades, these are the bomb...mags are included ;)

Hope that helps,

-S

they have made them for probably 20 yrs now, they only sell to LEO's though, i got 2 or 3 back in the '80s so they arent anything new, they just didnt sell them to just anyone.

FWIW i paid $40 each for mine 20+ yrs ago. well, no i didnt really, a bud did pay that and later lost the rifle in a pawn shop and he ended up giving me the mags over about 2 yrs, 1 for my b-day, then 1 for x-mas, etc, but he paid $40 each which i thought was an terrible price for them at the time.

the mag makers can make decent mags, some of the ones i have are 100%, but there QC must suck because while 2 are 100% i have one of the same brand (i would have to look and see what brand it is) which wont feed 3 times and not jam up,

its certainly a big reason i have always passed on the mini 30, no hi-cap mags which are consistantly reliable are available.

but that is a good question, what the world needs is a decent $20 or so hi-cap mini 14 & mini 30 mag, there certainly is a market for the things if ruger can sell them for the price they do.
