Something tough, preferably with hands, but big digital readout will do.
toughness is main concern - he can break new watch in no time )))
Something he can wear while making repairs around the house, this kind of stuff…
under $200 if possible
Thanks in advance

Casio G-Shock! There are a lot of different models, some with hands, and most sell for well under $200 -- in the US anyway....

Another for the Casio G-Shock. I've had mine on my wrist for over 5 years and it looks like new. I've needed new batteries once, and the wrist strap has held up remarkably. My dad has the same one which he has been wearing for probably 10 years, and he's a CNC/Lathe machinist. It's held up just as well in a grimy environment like that!

G-SHOCK! G-SHOCK! G-SHOCK! (Like everyone else posted).

The plus is that they also watches with hands, so you aren't tied to purely digital faces.

Dang! Now Powernoodle wants a G-shock! I was going to recommend a Seiko Black or Orange "Monster", but the G-Shock really sounds more like what you are after.

Seiko Orange Monster.

there are several g shocks with tough solar and the wave ceptor.

no batteries, atomic time. there are at least a few models with both features under $100.

Well, I think a Seiko monster would be a great choice, but the G-Shock is just so hard to beat and there are a ton of different styles to choose from.

I'm currently in the market for a new watch, and have been doing some research on line. After the research I've done, I'm torn between the Seiko SKX 173 and a Invicta 8926. Funny that the orange monster should be recommended. Both are "dive watches" and are automatics, and are within your price range. I've read some good reports on both. Just a thought..........

No contest. If you need tough, and looks aren't important, - G-Shock.

About a million military men around the world can't be wrong, and it doesn't get much tougher than that.

Hardly worth adding to at this point, but G-Shock- lots of styles to choose from too.

If you get one with the Tough Solar and Wave ceptor, you basically have a watch that is good to go for the next 10 years or so- then change the battery and go some more! Always the right time, and never have to fix the date got my vote- oh, and yes they're bulletproof too- got my son one like mine and he's real happy with it, which means he hasn't managed to break the crystal like he usually does.

Thank you for your replies. I had a g-shock for 7 years and know the are togh ones. I've scrolled thu models list and haven't seen any with hands AND READABLE face. I guess the are too much futuristic for my 64 yr Dad.
I should find the one with digital face and BIG digits in a B&M shop.
There were a lot of G shocks 10 yrs back, now most sporting goods stores carry Timex stuff:( Casios still around, just less diversity in models.
