She arrived a few hours ago. I still can't believe it. My new Ryan Model 1 has me utterly shocked with delight. :D

Here's what has me so deliriously blissed.

The second photo displays the new clip location which Steve just switched to recently. It's very user friendly.

The bottom photo shows the Ryan #1 next to my friend Larry Brahms' pristine 98 Commander for size comparison.

Despite it's massive size, the Ryan #1 feels wonderful in the hand. What blows me away most about this piece is both the beauty of the satin blade finish and the incredible sharpness of this chisel grind. This is by far the sharpest blade I've ever handled.

Larry somehow managed to score this Ryan for me, and I am eternally greatful to him. Thanks, buddy! I owe you BIG!

Here's a link to more pics that I just posted over in the Emerson Forum in case anyone is interested.

I'll post a few more pics here later, along with further impressions once the awe subsides a bit. :)

WOW, is there a webpage that shows his knives and prices? That is a big, beautiful knife!

KEWL, Eric!!! WOW! I love Steve's stuff!! How in the hell did Larry manage to score that for ya, ya bastid? :D I take it from the "new" clip that the knife was made recently... ::sigh:: I can't wait for October. Anybody been in contact with Steve, to see if he really IS going to start taking orders then?

That's a big f-ing knife, bro. Don't let Dawl see it - she'll get jealous. :D

Oct. is just around the corner. ;) :D ;)

To my friend, John Hollister; YES, Steve's stuff kicks serious arse!

To my buddy Chris (See2), How did Larry score this for me? The same way he scores all of my hard to find stuff; he's a friggin' knife dealin' magician! Anyone who doesn't have Larry as their personal dealer has a hole in the head! Larry is without a doubt one of the best guys that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I'm proud to call him "friend". And Chris, the new clip design DOES mean that this piece is a very fresh Ryan; it was delivered to it's owner last month, and Larry scored it for yours truly. :D

Ferret, the new clip design is AWESOME. It's almost too perfect. When in the hand the clip sits so flush with the scales that you don't even realize that it exists, yet when slipping the knife into the waistband or pocket the clip just seems to magically grab and secure the fabric. Unreal.

After having spent all day carrying this new Ryan (yes, this piece will actually be a daily carry for me BUT it will not cut anything unless someone happens to confuse me for a victim), I have come to the conclusion that this piece is indeed very comfortable and entirely realistic to carry. Today I wore it inside the waistand, strong side, just above my rear right pocket. It was comfy. It never moved. It is comforting. It is......the ultimate tactical folder. It really is. I can't imagine ever finding any tactical folder that I'd rather have insuring my hide than this piece.

Well, I've got a pile of e-mail here from Suspects regarding this blade which deserves immediate attention. I'd better get to it. Expect more pics this evening. I've got a certain Diamondback Rattlesnake on hand that's waiting for it's photo op with this Ryan. :D

Good luck with the knife Eric, enjoy it!

I'd like to ask all you Ryan fans a question without any flaring tempers, flames, etc. Do you actually find Ryan's knives to be esthetically pleasing to the eye? In other words, do you really find them good looking? I realize they are made as self-defense weapons and are made for specific purposes, namely survival of a violent encounter. I happen to live close enough to jbravo(Emerson Suspect Hall of Fame Member) to stop by and interupt his day occasionally, and have been able to handle a few Ryans there. They are built rock solid and I don't think I've ever seen a more overbuilt folder except the Strider. I just can't seem to get past the fact that they just seem ugly to me. Or is that part of the mystique and coolness factor?
Seriously, I'd like to know your opinions on this.

Dave

Hi Dave, and thanks for your kind words! :)

I've read enough of your posts to realize that you'd never intend flames by asking such a question, so let's see if I can answer it for you.

To me,....the Ryan Biohazards represent the most extreme futuristic visions of tactical knives. Although I can appreciate "art knives", I've never been much into them because I prefer blends of synthetic materials, and blades that are totally overbuilt. My tastes lean towards Farids, Striders, Emerson Specwars, Szabos, and obviously Ryans. I love a folder that screams "You can't break me!! I'm made to withstand severe abuse!" Do I abuse my knives? No, but I really enjoy knowing that my knives COULD survive extreme punishment if ever called upon to do so.

My favorite type of .223 poodle shooter is a Steyr AUG. My favorite fighting shotgun is a Benelli Super 90 Tactical. My favorite handguns are my Glocks and HK USP's. Polymers, radical lines, futuristic designs, tough as nails,.....I love these kinds of things and they're beautiful to me. Weaponry that can withstand severe conditions and still keep performing quite well gets me off and causes me to spend lots of cash.

This Ryan M1 is actually a bit of a surprise to me. I KNEW that I wanted one, but I had no clue that it would be so perfectly made. It has a ridiculously smooth action, a gorgeous satin blade finish,.. ...everything is just entirely top notch.
We all realize what these things go for on the secondary market, and they've become very serious collector pieces,....but I don't care about any of that. I just wanted one because I love the overall design and concept. This mint Ryan M1 will be carried daily. Screw the collector value. I bought this blade and I will therefore enjoy it by carrying it constantly. The satisfaction arises from feeling it ride inside of my waistband, knowing that I can draw it at a moments notice and do great bodily harm with it to anyone who cares to threaten me or mine.

"Is the ugly part of the mystique and coolness factor?" Possibly, but everyone has their own idea of ugly. If this Ryan had Stag or Pearl scales THEN it would be ugly! :p

I don't know,....maybe this explains it, and maybe not. But it's how I feel, and it makes sense to me. Anyone else care to lend opinion to Dave's very valid question?

Personally, I love the look of Steve's work. The model 4 is all mine, as is the model 7 - both of which are pretty "vanilla" as Ryan's go. I like the model 1, 3 and 5 - which are the more radical ends of the spectrum. I don't find them ugly at all - I think they look very cool, and incredibly menacing. It'd be interesting to see the looks you'd get if you ever had to use it - hell, if you just yanked it out to cut a loose thread on your jacket, or something. That being said, the other thought that pops into my head is "God... that'll be a bitch to sharpen..." :D

Eric, very very cool looking blade. I love it. I have been wanting a Biohazard knife for a long time but they are so hard to find.

Heres one I started working on today while tinkering around (not too busy this week). I used a large BM AFCK. I am not finished with it, this is as far as I have got. What do you think? I still have alot of work to do.

Or better yet, Chris, the look on someone's face if I whip it out to cut a thread off of THEIR jacket. :D

Hey Michael, keep going on that AFCK and keep showing the progress! What a great format for a pseudo mini M1.

I'd love to see Steve Ryan do a slightly smaller M1 with perhaps a 4" blade. I've been carrying my M1 daily for the past several days now, and it DOES carry quite nicely for it's size, but a slightly smaller version would be very nice indeed. Then I could carry them both. :D

Michael, the Biohazards ARE very hard to find, but put the word out that you're searching for one and you'll soon find one or two. Hang in there, buddy; they're absolutely worth the wait. :)

Hi all,

Can anyone kindly direct me to website(s) on which I can see/buy Steve Ryan's knives? My search on yahoo yielded no results.

Thanks!

Eric, I really like the new clip design. I am going to e-mail Steve and ask if he can modify my Model 1 to install the new clip design. As to whether they are futuristic, I really think that Steve designs them for SERIOUS KNIFE FIGHTING. I know if someone pulled A Ryan Model 1 out of thier pants and indicated they were going to use it on me, I would p**s in my pants unless I was in florida and carrying my Sig P229!- Dick

For the Ryan website, go to www.yama$hita.org. Substitute an "s" for the "$". The site is in Japanese but boy does he have some nice stuff!!
