I read in earlier posts that they make these auto spikes with heat-treated steel and kick-ass springs. And the ripoffs are using aluminum handles. But right now I see on 1sks the one listed under "SWAT-GF SWAT Guardfather Automatic IcePick" also has Aluminum handle. So, are those also ripoffs or SWAT changed the material? How's the quality of these spikes selling on 1sks?

The first Guardfathers were made in Italy with stainless steel body and spike.
I think all the ones you see now on Bladeauction and the other shops are made of aluminum handles, all different colors, I have handled many of the black and colored versions and really do not see a difference in quality, some are snappier than others but I think the springs can be adjusted!

IIRC the ones at 1SKS are the real deal SWAT made guardfathers, the ones w/colored handles are not. black is the only way the SWAT ones come IIRC, at least thats the way it was about a yr ago when i saw this question and 1SKS answered it, ya might do a search.
...would you openly use it in front of law enforcement?? If so, for what? Switchblades are a handy tool...like say for a lineman on a pole...
The spike is a cool piece, I've got one...but its only real purpose I can see is stabbing things...like beer cans.
I guess what Im trying to say is...If youre caught with a switchblade, there are a lot of legitimate reasons why you might be carrying it (though still illegal)...the auto spike on the other hand??? I'd say don't get caught with it out in public. If Balisongs and gravity knives fall under the swithblade category, I think its safe to assume that the auto spike does as well.
