We've got 125V in the works, we're testing 3V & M4 in powder.

I could see S90V in something? Maybe a Millie?

Anyone want to chime in on Sal's idea?

:D :D :D :D :D

Chime. That would be what pushed me over the edge into buying a Military. Maybe two.

Don't make me decide between a ZDP Chinese and a S90V military. I'll have to get both. :-)

I consider the Military an already great multi task folding knife, the constant tweak's in it's evolution at the same time keeping it's simple concept make me like it more and more, added to the fact I consider Sal a man of great knowledge in his field.. I dont know much about S90V, but I'm sure it would be a thought out progression for what is already a fine tool.

From EasternBlade:

IMHO, there's not a "better" steel alive.

S125V is considered to be the best steel of this type:

CPM S125V is a high performance upgrade to CPM S90V.
With 12% vanadium, it has superior wear resistance while maintaining similar corrosion resistance. S125V has the highest attainable hardness of any CPM stainless steel. ... Its typical application hardness is HRC 62-64. (from the CPM site)

I do not see any argument in favor of S90V, since Sal is already working with S125V (Native).

I would prefer a compression lock on Military - IMO a liner lock is passe.

Hey Carlos, what about a Millie in ZDP189? I've been out for a while so I don't know too much about the S90V, but I've heard alot of great stuff about that 189...;)

Spyderco generally hasn't used import steels for its domestic models. I imagine that there are enough great domestic steels that there is no point in paying the shipping and tariffs of importing a large quantity of bar stock across the Pacific, though they have imported some VG-10 in the past.

Sorry about that Carlos....didn't think about the costs of importing that steel and that the Millie is made only here in the US. :foot:

It is no problem. :) I've never heard an official explanation, but this seems the most likely reasoning. With rare exception, Spyderco knives are made with steels local to their places of production.

As a "militant left hander", I'd suggest that if having a new steel "field tested" by the broadest possible audience is important, then at least the first model to utilize it should be something full ambi, rather than a knife with a handed lock. If the steel is most appropriate in a "heavy duty" model, I would suggest the Manix would be a better platform.

From a strictly personal viewpoint, I am not a "steelhead", so I'd purchase a LH Military in 440A before I'd consider a RH one in some "exotic" steel.

S125V sounds very interesting, I would buy one just to try the steel. I would carry it if the pocket clip comes reversible for tip up carry, the thumb serrations tear my hand up pretty good when reaching into my pocket w/it's current tip down clip.

I'd rather see the Native get an overhaul over the Millie.

Colored FRN Native in S125V/S90V. :)

S90V, S125V.. I'm not a steel junkie so all that I'm concerned about is that these steel's are an improvement on what there already is regarding reliability/durability etc, especially on the Millie.
