How do I get more of these. (Not my picture but same knife) Doesn't have to be Victorinox or anything. Mine has "Italy" stamped on the blade.

I was given one of these and lately have been beating the absolute crap out of it, using it to make traps and such, and the snap is still perfect, blade holds an edge, saw works like a champ. I want more of these! Where can I get 'em? These are great PSK knives. I'm not interested in any other type of knife, just these older GAKs so please no OHT suggestions or anything like that. Thanks guys! Links are what I'm looking for. Please don't just say "check this place out, They might have them."

Dylside,
I'm after one as well because of its dynamite size. I ended up getting a bulkier vic hunter because I couldn't find one the same. Good luck.

I was in the market for a SAK with just the bare essentials as well. Saw, Knife are the most important to me. Those look decent.

Looks like a variation of the Victorinox Mauser Knife. Might be a copy. I've got a Mauser knife somewhere.....:(

...well, when I find it I'll post a pic....

Bad news for you is that the Mauser is no longer made. But perhaps yours still is.

edit: Picture of my (dirty) Mauser:

So, you know it's called a GAK or German Army Knife--or rather it USED to be the German Army Knife before they adopted the variation of the OHT. These used to be easy to find and really inexpensive. Not so easy any more. Before you look on ebay, always try felinevet here: http://felinevet.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

If it were me, I'd want the Victorinox version, although some of the others are very good too. Also, Victorinox had a civilian version of this knife called the Safari (red scales) and the Safari Trooper (green scales like the GAK, but without the insignia.) The red Safari was my first SAK. That was thirtysome years ago. That particular one was lost, but has since been replaced. I also have the Trooper. I'll still throw one in my pocket occasionally for the sake of nostalgia, but I much prefer the Vic Farmer as I like the awl placement and it's better saw. There are those, though, who think the GAK/Safari/Trooper is the best survival knife out there. I'm not so sure the NEW German Army Knife is an improvement on the old.

There's always more discussion of SAKs over in the Multi-tools & Multi-purpose Knives forum. You'll probably get more help over there. (After reading this thread, I'll almost certainly be carrying one of my Safaris tomorrow. :) )

These guys are great. I can't believe I forgot about this site. I bought a couple of plain edge OHT's from them. Thanks for reminding me!

OHT or Trekker? I've seen plain edge Trekkers, but not plain edged OHT's. Did I miss something?

See what you miss when you don't check in at the Multi-tools & Multi-purpose Knives forum! :D

Yep, there is now a OHT with plain blade.

OK now I think I'm missing something ... the original thread, without can opener and bottle opener ... just blade, saw, awl and unfortunately the all important corkscrew?

you might want to ask Roger from Swiss Bianco, in all other shops there are a lot of knockoffs around, only the vic-made originals really can take a beating -
and dartanyon, you might want to look at the next swissbianco newsletter, as they are doing a special edition "bushcrafter" blade, awl, saw, that's it, and these will be in the next swissbianco newsletter (I believe with orange anodised alox scales)

LuckyKitty ... thats me! the bushcrafter ... I can see me now ... making yet another spear or stone axe ... or even the all famous toastmaster stick.
I'll be checking out this newsletter then ay, cheers. Dylside should be pretty stoked too ;)

Those were great knives. I remember a friend of mine used his for 2X4's once! Unfortunately someone thought they needed it more than him and some moron has it now...

Thanks for all the help guys!

Yep, plain edge OHT, not Trekker. I bought two of them from these guys.. I think it was last year. They're great.

If it says Italy on it, it may be made by Aitor. They make some pretty nice stuff I have found.
Although I just remembered Aitor is Spanish. Oops

You can find them floating around on ebay.
Bought a Victorinox one last year simply because i didn't have a SAK in that frame size, lol!
Saw only seems to cut on the pull, or is it the push? Can't remember as its been a while since i played with it.
But maybe thats just my knife?
Personally i much prefer the saw on my OHT, Fireman and Outrider.

SwissBianco had the plain edge OHT with corkscrew, and with stayglow scales.
Seems like a nice enough guy, bought 2 Vic Alox Lumberjacks from him a few years back.
But since then i've frequently had problems getting replies from him regarding order inquiries.
He really needs to fix/update his website.
Felinevet on ebay or at SOSAK might be a better bet.
There are also a few ebayers that specialize in used SAKs.
I've bought from a few,i'll look them up if you want their names.

Thanks for everything guys. With the help of a fellow forumite, I found a local guy that had some for sale. Went ahead and snatched up 3.
