SAKs - Victorinox or Wenger?

most folks here would agree that when it comes to fit and finish, Vics rule! Wenger may be a little more creative, and I do like their serrated scissors for nails, etc. but there is a distinct difference in quality.

I might as well mention this also. I own several spydercos and benchmade knives, and the the best edge that I can put on a blade is on a vic. I don't know why, but I find them extremely easy to get razor sharp. I still can't put a decent edge on my D2 knife! oh, well

Blade steels are always compromises - some excel in one area but are not so good in others....

Victorinox SAK blade steels are a compromise - and probably are a sort of "jack of all trade" (master of none).

They are extremely rust resistant - as you've noted can be sharpened very well (for normal usage). However they are not particularly Hard, nor do they have super edge retention.

But like many others I find that the steel seems to do just about everything reasonably well, without being the "best" of anything - but perhaps in its own way it might be regarded as a "best compromise" blade steel? :D :D :D
