I am in need of some guidance here:

The HI forum is unique on bladeforums. It draws a large family of regulars and sees a lot action in terms of threads/posts. Some members are so devoted they rarely visit other forums (you know who you are ;) ). It is completely different than even other Makers and Manufacturers Forums. It's more friendly, informative and even more fun - plus you get first-rate service by Uncle Bill and first-hand accounts of these knives being tested "in the field".

Granted, that can make a few of us go crazy at times....kinda like piranha in a feeding frenzy.:D

So, here's my complaint:

Let's say I want to trade my khukuri or perhaps even sell it. I agree with Spark/et.al, that I should have a Gold Membership to sell. OK. So now I've gone off and paid for a Gold membership. I post my khukuri for sale or trade in "The Exchange" forums.

However, many people here don't ever visit the Exchange forums. (I rarely go there myself unless I've posted a knife for trade already).

Plus, wouldn't you rather have your khuk go to somebody here in this forum???

Here's my not-so-humble opinion:

SET OF RULES

If you have a Basic membership, you ought to be able to list your khuk for trade in the HI forum; but NOT for sale.

If you have a Gold (or higher) membership, you should be able to list for sale/trade here = that includes Uncle Bill.

IIRC, the reason for the trade/sale rule here at bladeforums was that in other forums it was distracting from the "conversation" type threads, even making some people upset (that's why they created W&C as well).

But that is NOT the case here. We all love to see each other's khuks and even trade and sell them. I, for one, would much rather see my khuk go to someone here than anyone else.

Additionally, I think that the people most interested in khukuris are right here in THIS forum and not the others. Sure, we all visit other forums now and then, but this one is the major point of focus. So why shouldn't we be allowed to trade/sell amongst ourselves?

Does anybody here honestly check "The Exchange" for khukuris on a regular basis?

Of course (playing Devil's advocate) perhaps that is the reason for the rule as well = so that there's more interaction amongst all forum members? and we don't all get stuck in one place?

Sorry to cause such a ruckus, but I've always been one to play by the rules/book. I would prefer that Spark/Blues/Bill/etc. say something comprehensive to set a clear list of rules = maybe in a thread at the top of the forum like I've seen in other forums.

No offense to any moderators, either mentioned or unmentioned = you all do a great job and are to be commended.

Can you just give some guidance to satisfy my Jeckyl side? = the annoying stickler

Any member can post in the For Trade forum. Post a brief link here.
If you want money for your knives, pony up the money for a Gold membership. Post your knife for sale in the For Sale forum. Post a link here.
If you want to help keep BladeForums afloat (so Uncle can have a place to host the Cantina), buy a Gold membership whether you intend to sell, post pictures, or just lurk.

Not so, according to Blues.

You're missing the point, Berk. That's why I'm asking for a clear set of rules/etiquette/whatever. A lot of trading and selling goes on here and I think it should be allowed to continue. I don't want to have to keep checking the Sale/Trade forums.

Am I the only one concerned with the implications here?

The rules that Spark established for the site apply to all forums, HI included.

Nobody knows better than I do how much the character of this forum differs from many others on the site, however that doesn't change the facts.

The "rules" such as they are have been gone over in the other two threads and I am not going to rehash them again as they aren't that complicated.

Stirring it up, Dan, is only going to end up hurting Uncle Bill and the forum. You decide what that's worth to you. I'm done debating.

I really likes 'em. THey're coool.

Himalayan Imports makes 'em,
Cliff Stamp tries to break 'em
When outdoors I'm gonna take 'em
along with me,
cause they're cool to use and to see.

Hey, do we need another bear story, or what?

Bartender! Another round fer the whole cantina! on me!

Actually, Bill, I emailed you and asked your concurrence on closing the thread, I certainly didn't "say" to do so. (Just want it clear that I am not acting like a martinet.)

That said, I still think it is a good idea to close it and will re-close it now unless you wish to reply.

I've never opened a closed thread. Didn't know I could do such things.

You're right and I'm sorry. I got the impression from your email that you thought the thread ought to be closed so I figured I'd do it myself. I know you have other duties in life besides running herd on all of Bladeforums.

Now I'll see if I can close it again!!!!
