Same bolster poll but from a different angle.

Say you could buy a handmade folder with bolsters for $300, or you could buy the same handmade folder without bolsters for $200, which would you buy?

Depends on if I like it better with or without bolsters. If I think it looks better with them I must then decide if it looks 50% better with them (same % as increase in price). If it does I go with bolsters. This is assuming I could afford either, which is probably a safe assumption when shopping for customs.

At one time I wouldn't own a knife that didn't have bolsters but now I prefer the uncluttered look of no bolsters,go figger.

Same answer as before. Yes, if we're talking gents knives.

On the other hand, probably not for a "working" folder. However, the ones I own, or have on order, that fall into this ategory have all-metal (titanium) frames and a bolster wouldn't make any sense.

I think it would depend on the handle material. If you are talking Carbon fiber, or G-10, or Micarta, I think a bolster-less knife is the better deal, but if you are using wood, or pearl, or ivory, I would rather have a bolster. Something to protect the working end of the knife handle. Now this may just be based on what I have seen in my life, but for some reason, it seems to make sense.

Depends on look.
Currently I do not have the cash, so even if having bolsters look better, I'd have gone without them.

The same answer that I said in the other poll, bolsters definitely. I like the appearance of the bolster with CF, micarta, ironwood, wood, ivory, etc. It looks a lot cleaner to me. That is my own personable prefernece. The money, eventhough it would cost 33% more would not phase me, it would just keep from acquiring so many knives:D

Heres the knife I was considering losing the bolsters on. It's a big folder and meant to be carried and used. I was thinking about making a batch without bolsters and putting black textured g10 scales on em. Thanks for the input forumites!! It sure is nice to be able to do market research here.

I'm a big fan of bolsters myself. I would definately pay an additional $50, I would have to think about it for an additional $100. I would probably step up to the plate for a nice set of bolsters.

Michael: i would be happy to buy the folder with the bolsters for this price. You know. ;)

When i was ordering my Raptors from Ferret last year i was in a budbet (still am),
but after seeing at pics how much better they look with bolsters,
i would rather sell one of my factoryknives bevore i make this mistake (Mistake ONLY ascribe to the no-bolster-version!!) again.

But then i like natural handles like wood or bone and so the bolsters
may have more sense.
