How does it hold an edge? Any pro's or con's to the metal?
I am specifically looking at Ka-Bars Next Generation knives which are in this steel, and was also wondering if anyone has had experience with these knives.

Thanks in advance for any help:)

Sandvick 12C27 is an under-rated steel. It is specifically made for cutlery and when heat treated just right offers high corrosion resistance, excellent edge retention and easy sharpening. The Swedes tend to klnow their stuff when it comes to steel. I believe Benchmade used this steel in some fixed blades.

12C27 is not the next phase, new wave, dance craze steel, but it is one of only a handfull of steels every formulated specifically for knives. It's got excellent rust resistance. It takes a very good edge, and it retains it very well.

I think that KaBar did a great job with this steel and I have been impressed with ease of sharpening and edge retention. A good deal from KaBar.

I have a CF clip point, the only one Delta-Z made in this configuration. The Steel is Sandvik. I have used this knife hard and it's one outstanding knife. It takes a manificent edge, stays sharp, and the knife needs very little maintainence.
With the carbon fiber handle material, Ti-liners and a Coated Sandvik clip-point, this knife performs like a knife that should cost three time what I paid for it. I am impressed. This is at approx. five Months of hard use and daily sharpening.

My last custom folder has a Sandvik 12C27 blade. The maker used that material because it combines great toughness with good edge holding, is easy to resharpen and will take an exceptionally sharp edge. Plus, it's a much cheaper and easier to grind compared to something like 420V. So its economical. All of this and its stain-resistant too.

Sandvik 12C27 is a great cutlery steel. Not 'the best', but it is a very good alloy which nicely balances the conflicting physical properties that make a steel good blade making material.
