Satin Finish?

If a blade has a "satin" finish... does this make it nonreflective? I have an Emerson that is so, wondering if that is only on certain knives (I'm looking at Benchmades and most of them have satin finishes) or all of them? Basically, if I want a shiny blade, will I need to get one that does not list as having a satin finish?

The manufacturers are pretty good about clarifying blade finishes. If you just have to have a particular knife, and it only comes in satin, you could take a dremel to it and buff it up to a shine. (This works on some steels better than others.) I have a Kershaw scallion that I dremeled to a shiny finish, just for the heck of it. I started with fine steel wool, than used a buffer wheel with some compound on it. You might not want to booger up a new knife though, so it's your call.
