Newbie Question here:

Bought a pairing knife blank and some Micarta (before the accident) and am assembling. Got a question:

For scale pins it appears folks always drill thru both slabs, drive pins all the way thru, epoxy and finish.

Is there any reason not to have the pins go all the way thru the material? In other words, is it going to be too weak to hide them inside the handle?

not at all Steve. I do hidden pins all the time. They are a little more difficult to locate the hole correctly but other than that, there is no reason to not use them. After I locate the hole I normally drill the hole oversize and peen the ends of the pins. Make sure you fill the holes with epoxy and clamp the scales in place. This makes a very strong assembly.

Peter you are just a fount of wisdom. I've been wondering how to do that... This would really look good with dovetailed bolsters.
