New guy questions/concerns.

I purchased a BM690 last week and love it. I understand that a "thinner" angle on the edge will really improve performance - anyone have a recommended range?

Additionally, I am using this for EDC. I work in an office environment and need to be in business casual every day - no denims, etc, so I'm concerned about the durability of the scales - any recommendations for treatments - I LIKE the matte finish rather than a shiny one - I'm just worried that I'll beat the scales up.

Any idea on how durable the anodizing is on the Ti frame? Can this "wear off" too?

This isn't going to completely help you, but it's a data point.

I have one that I shined up the stabilized wood a bit.

It is not durable -- it buffs in very light everyday use and carry in jeans pockets -- you can see scratches/buffs/divots after a few days.

Also the blue anodizing on the scales DOES rub off pretty easily. In fact, the area around the lock has already come off, revealing some spots of silver (the titanium underneath).

Needless to say, I don't carry this baby anymore.

*sigh*

i have had a 690bc1 for over a year. it has seen a fair amount of use in this time. the anodizing has lightened somewhat here and there but nothing that really bothers me. the stabilized wood has been nothing if not stable. it looks as good today as when brand new. in fact my only complaint was with the somewhat porous nature of the bc1 coating which allowed some rust to form on the back of the blade and around the logo. once i was aware of this i treated it as if it were naked steel and there has been no further problem. this knife is one of my favorite bm's and one of my favorite knives overall! i had to ring in to say so. i endorse it very strongly.
