hi i will be buying my first kershaw knife and was wondering if the scallion is a good choice. ive heard there 14C28N is good but not much on there 420hc. does anyone have this knife? is the steel decent? im open to other suggestions to. thanks

yes it is very good. I have the leek. I gave my scallion away to a very good friend. It sharpens up really fast to.

Kerahaw knives are excellent blades for the price, and the Ken Onion models are a specially good buy. I like them - the Scallions - because the blade is wider, and perhaps more versatile, that the Leek's although 1/2" shorter. I think of it as a Chive on steroids. I can definitely recommend it for EDC and moderate field use, although I'm sure it can stand up to some abuse and rough use.

I have a couple with 410 and 420HC, which are not the highest grades of steel, but definitely up to any task to which you apply them in routine use. There are also some Damascus steel models, available as special editions or retailer exclusive models, but I have no experience with those.

(My opinion as a consumer, not just an employee ;) )

The 1620FL was my first Kershaw. I still love it and carry it in my purse everyday. Great little knife. I've had several friends see it and want one after playing around with it. I've also given several as gifts.

I love them, I have four damascus ones, a VIB one and a flag .. I wish they made a composite 1

If you're open to ordering your Scallion by mail you should try some of the online retailers; you can get some good prices and fast shipping.

rjdepedro, I would take that post down. Deal spotting is not allowed, unless the dealer in question is a paid member.

I don't have an SOG Flash I, but I've handled a combo-edged one owned by an acquaintance. With that limited experience I would say I prefer the Scallion.

The ergonomic handle of the Flash is quite comfortable, but I prefer the way the Scallion feels in my hand, and the blade shape, although about 1/4 inch shorter, feels more capable because of the curved edge and added width. I also like the way the Scallion makes no bulk in my pocket when I remove the clip for totally unobtrusive EDC.

Thanks to Squashfan for the heads-up on my previous post. I was unaware of that, so I'd better read up on the R&Rs.

You are welcome! I didn't mean to sound rude but I wanted to warn a fellow poster.

As to the scallion, it is a very good knife. 420HC is one of my personal favorite blade steels.
If you want a good deal, look no farther than Dave (Kershawguy). His factory blem prices are some of the best deals on the web. Don't be scared by the phrase "blem" either. I have been pleased with every blem I have ever purchased from Dave.
