This is the first scandi friction folder I have made. The specs are as follows:

7 1/4" open length
3" x 1/8" blade of O1 steel
1/8" thick tan canvas micarta scales (3/8" overall thickness)
1/4" stainless pivot pin, with 8-32 stainless allen bolts

About 10 years ago, we had a willow tree come down in an icestorm. I cut the remains down. Still, every year, we get shoots coming up where the tree was. I`ve been letting them grow for about 2 years before I cut them down again. By this time some of them are around 1 1/2" diameter, great for hiking sticks. I usually let them dry out for a year or so before using them. This particular one was 1 1/2" at one end, tapering to about 1" at the other end, and 5' long. I decided to shave all the bark off of it with my knife.

Here it is cleaned up.

Got a nice pile of shavings.

Afterwards it would still shave hair from my arm.

Making some sun tea while I`m goofing around.

Sliced some summer sausage and cheese to put on crackers to go with my sun tea.

Hi Stomper -

Cool!

The grind on that folder looks very nice.

I look forward to the rest of the review!

I have a nice stick that I found while hunting morels last year - it has been in the corner of my garage since then waiting for me to do something with it.

I am not sure what wood it is, but I want to carve a morel replica on the top of it and then I would use that for shrooomin'.

best regards -

Very nice! That grind looks a little higher than my Neckmuk, so I bet it was slicing like mad

yeah man you did right.
Just a more work on the handles and it is perfect.

cheers

Using the inside of the protruding latch with the knife closed makes a great firesteel striker!

Used the shavings along with some PJCB`s to make this fire using my firesteel and knife.

I`m going to be using this knife exclusively for a while to see how it works out for me on a daily basis. My Victorinox Soldier is going to get jealous!

Agreed, the knife looks fantastic. one thing i would suggest would be countersinking the holes on the pins or low profile pins. just my opinion.

That thing really throws some sparks. Does the handle on these flex very much? I ask only cause I know that striking ferro rods takes some lateral pressure.

Not at all. The blade is closed, I use the inside of the latch protrusion for a striker. I should add that there is no blade wobble when open. I`ll let you guys play with it at the get together.

Sounds like a plan. I really like the blade shape on this one. Looking forward to see some more pics of it being used.

I am really getting hooked on this. I hope to be there for the get together, I'd love to try it out.

:thumbup: I think that I may have to have one in the Scandi grind too.

I can definately attest to how well your 01 stands up. I'm not suprised it still shaved. I used my little tin knife as a dummy to see what my (still to be named...) JK fixed blade could handle, and i ended up actually shaving a house key with it and no damage (to the knife anyways lol).
