Well it has arrived at my door step and to say that its still a scandi would be just being nice. I don't even know if I can fix it and if not it will be coming back to you for a regrind John.

When the first reviews were popping up I emailed john asking him what he would like to see from these reviews. To me this was a test run of the scandi grind and the knife it was used on was simply a mule for such grind. I asked John and he confirmed that info on his grind was what he was looking for.

Here are some Pic's of its current state.

Hi knifenut1013 -

Some of the first reviews mentioned that the grind had a slight secondary bevel.

Looks like the micro-bevel had a little "scope-creep".

Have you decided if you need to send it back to Stomper?

best regards -

Bring it back to a single bevel. Single bevel=simple sharpening=easier to get sharp=happy knife owner.

Wow that would take a while to fix, but I think it should be doable on an XXC.

Lets just say I have a few hours more work before you can call it a scandi again, even with the XXC.

Hi knifenut1013 -

How's it coming with the passaround? Have you had any luck with it?

I would bet it will be in great shape by the time it leaves Knifenuts hands.;)

Progress is slow because the way O1 grinds, its very close but still needs some work. I've worked on it everyday but because of its condition I should have picked up some 40 grit sandpaper, you only think a DMT XXC is coarse until a job like this.

I'll post a review most likely after it gets sent out.

I enjoyed this knife and found it to be a great EDC woods blade. I had originally intended to reprofile it to a single bevel on my Japanese water stones, but I realized that it would have taken a looong time. Glad to see that someone is taking on the 'full scandification' task.

Great blade, John.

All the best,

- Mike

I made it sharp before I passed it to Jim, but alas, probably convexed it more than scandi-fied it. Sorry for any trouble!

Same here. I hated to try to take off enouch steel to get it back toa real scandi, not that confident in my abilities on someone elses knive.:o

So after a whole lotta grinding and a bit of polishing it back to a scandi :D

There were a few things I had to fix though and is the main reason it took so long.

I finished with my natural Aoto stone then added a micro bevel  with my 12k naniwa super stone. A little strop on hard felt and its nice and sharp.

Don't worry the micro bevel is so small you probably won't even know its their. It will not effect normal flat bevel sharpening either.

Its not my best work and its not perfect by any means but its 1000x better than before. Lets try and keep it this way ;)

You guys will be happy to know that my current scandi grinds only have the slightest hint of a secondary bevel. Practice makes perfect!

Nice work on the reprofile knifenut! You obviously know your sh*t when it comes to sharpening.

And John, its good to hear that you're progressing on those scandi grinds. I might have to make my next one from you a scandi.

And that's the key to a micro bevel, they need to be micro. Though it may sound slow using a spyderco UF ceramic, 8k water stone or higher, or any other very fine abrasive you only need 2 or 3 strokes per side and its ready to go. My review will cover many of the things I think a scandi edge should be and hopefully make yours one of the best on the market

Who's next, I would like to get it sent out soon?

Hi Stomper -

That is correct - I have emailed my address to knifenut.

I am REALLY looking forward to getting this one in hand - it will be my first scandi, and I am excited to see knifenut's work on the edge!

best regards -
