I have a folding hunter with red bone handles 5 1/4" closed the master (clip) blade is etched BOWIE FOLDING HUNTER and the tang is stamped SCHRADE-WALDEN then the second line is stamped N.Y. U.S.A. third line is 225H now it looks like the old timer folding hunter except the scales are real bone and the and it's older. I assume the H behind the model number is an indication that Henry Baer (UNCLE HENRY) was already on the scene at schrade, but my question is does anyone know when this was manufactured? It is in great condition and doesnt even have stained springs from being stored for years but of course this knife will be used and not collected even if it is collectible because it was made to be used and that's what i intend to do with it, however i still want to know how old it is! Someone told me it was late 40's early 50's someone else said 60's early 70's any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Just a quick look at my references this morning shows the knife was made prior to 1976 (Robert Clemente's book). I find the 225 listed in Sargent's "... guide to Pocket knives..." showing it was made in real jigged bone with the Schrade Walden tang mark 1948-1973. (two models, one with saber ground blade, one with flat ground) I don't see one listed with the 'H' suffix. Did the H stand for 'Hunter'?

Can someone please correct me if I am mistaken, or add more information for
sdt11670?

We did a thread on the 225 a couple a months ago. As I remember there are 225's, 225ST's and 225H's. The H stands simply for the lanyard/thong hole drilled in the rear bolster. The 225(H) became the 25OT. Still dont know why they dropped the 1st 2. In the Uncle Henry line its the 227UH. Not to confuse you all any further but, there is a 225OT which has a saw blade replacing the thinner of the 2 blades on the 225(H). Pictures later.

I told Dale I would post a couple of pictures of the Hunter knives.
I put a LB7 in each picture for scale. The hunters are bigger than the LB7 (5") by 1/4" I also put in my favorite 123 and 124 which is the same frame the Statue of Liberty knife was built on. The blue 25OT is a custom job where the shield was remounted upside down and the blades re-profiled.
I also snuck in a pict of the 126OT as you can see its the exact as the 125 but stainless.

The saw on the 225OT locks via a liner lock as do all the 125/127's

Aaaaaaarrrggghhh !!
I really like Larry's pictures of all the great knives but if he keeps posting new ones,my "want" list is going to be unmanageable !!
I may have to sell some guns - soon!
What's that song I hear? ..buy more knives...buy more knives !
I think I better start beating the wife to the mail box.
Maybe I could get her hooked - did Schrade make any kitchen cutlery?
Merry Christmas!

Don't ever sell the guns! You'll regret it the day they're gone. But then you probably know that already.

Ron,
They made lots of Kitchen knives!
They had a entire line for Betty Crocker. Including knife blocks and steak knives.
But until you find them you better keep the sneakers on for that quick trip to the mailbox.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all.

I once saw a bumper sticker that said:
I wanted to go to work today but the voices said "stay home and clean the guns."

Or in our case (those of us afflicted with "Schradeitus") the voices say "Buy more knives." :D :D :D :D

Do any of you forum members have any search term tips on carbon steel kitchen cutlery made by Schrade?
We have a good many Case and Old Hickory knives that are used the most. The 34OT's that I've carried since the 80's bear testimoney to the fact that Schrade kitchen knives should be a good as what we have.
I plan to order Clemente's book as soon as the revision comes out,so I won't have to bother you fella's with questions like this.

In 1991 Imperial Schrade, Ellenville was making a full range of kitchen knives, serving spoons, slotted spoons, ladles, forks, butter knives, and table ware.
They made a line called the international collection that looked a lot like today's henckles and another line called Safe-T-Grip (1997)
I'll post a picture from the flyers tomorrow.

I gotta go ogle at the Schrade ornaments on the tree!

You do realize "kitchen cutlery" means that there are a lot more Schrade fixed blades around?
