Hi guys,

I interviewed a 16 year old offender the other day and while searching his school bag discovered three pairs of scissors. Asked him why, and the reply was that it was his equalizing weapon. Most frightening was that he showed me half a dozen different ways to use the scissors to stab and slash. But not only that, he also stated that if apprehended he could never be charged with carrying a dangerous weapon as it was part of his school kit.

I'm sure they're a dime a dozen. immature males like that really are at an important stage in life; where they will choose the road they will continue their journey onto manhood. Hopefully this young guy will look back and laugh at how immature he was. Others might be crying in their jail cells.

Welcome to Bladeforums! I'll move this thread to the Knife Laws forum; I think it'll fit best there.

Of course there are kinds of things that can be used as weapons; no matter how many are banned there are still plenty more....

Holy Hell! I was like that. In third grade, I had a big red one, a small green, and a small red. Well, I feel retarded. :( Hahahah, I was immature, it's good to know... :)

Yet he was apprehended.

I think this shows good insight into the mind of a typical 16 year old: that's exactly the kind of stuff I used to think at that age, and of course it's demonstrably not true. Further, it's not even theoretically true: as long as he uses them as scissors, they're scissors. But if he uses them as a weapon, they're weapons.

Hope he's okay; he's certainly off to a bad start.

I'm surprised he was that open about his intentions with them. If a screwdriver can be interpreted as a weapon, than 3 pairs of scissors could be proven as a weapon too, even if he claims they are part of school gear.
