I just found a warehouse kinda place - selling old equipment.

:D I bought a 2"x10" felt wheel for $12.:D It's old but unused.

Of course I don't have anything to put it on, but what the heck.

I also got 2 bars of some unknown compound. It's a light tan color. Any idea how to find out what it is?

OK I did.

Bobbing compound it may be.

It is very dry and coarse.

You can use the palm sander with 600 grit and just rub the block over it and remove the swirl marks. It's kinda like an eraser for metal. I can't get it to adhere to a loose wheel though so I can't buff with it. However simply rubbing the bar on the metal will cut. If I can find a way to apply it, it might make a great satin finish.

Re: the felt wheel.

I checked on Brownells. They sell a 1x10 hard felt wheel for $170. I'd say $12 is a swell price for a 2".
