Was at the local highland games and thought it would be interesting to try some Sgian Dubhs and/or Dirks. Anybody know where I can get quality blades for this project? Also, are there any good books/primers dealing with design and construction?
Many thanks

Crazy Crow Trading Post has some Highland Dirk kits. Americana Ltd has a hand forged Dirk blade also that looks pretty good. Mountain State Muzzleloading has a Damascus Small toothpick blade that might work for a double edged Sgian Dubh. http://www.mtnstatemuzzleloading.com/catalog.cfm item 11222 under knife blades.
I haven't found anyone who makes Sgian Dubh blades for the DIY crowd. You will probably just have to look at some of the kit blades already available and see what can be adapted. Or get some 3/16 5160 and have at it with a grinder.

Thanks for the cool link, Hoplophile! I appreciate it. Several blades I'm interested in.
