Can anyone compare the small Sebenza with the Hinderer Flashover? I have only seen both in photo’s, specs sound similar. Can the Flashover be taken apart without voiding the warranty and put back together as easily as the Sebenza? I assume quality to be on the same level, but without handling either one, I could be mistaken. Any thoughts you have would be most helpful.

I'm extremely familiar with both Ricks work and with Sebenza's. If you look at Ricks page under Firetacs, that top Firetac with Mammoth Ivory and the recurve blade was made for me (I'm sitting here right now fondling it :D ). Rick is one of a handfull of custom makers whose knives are consistanly as good if not better than a Sebenza. The consistancy of outstanding fit/finish puts him in the ranks (IMHO) of Tom Mayo, Kit Carson and others. Fortunately for us Hinderer fans he doesn't have the reputation yet to have 4 year wait lists, but without a doubt its going to come. As far as his warrenty, I know he's great to work with and will go out of his way to make things right, but I can't speak for him as far as taking apart his knife and his having to put it back together for you. I'm sure he'll see this post and give you the info you need.

Sorry for not re-reading your post before replying. I've never taken my Firetac apart, so don't know if its as easy as a Sebenza, although it probably is. My only doubt would be in getting the proper torque on the fasteners to the proper tightness to ensure that it would work as smoothly as it originally came from Rick. Once again, not speaking for Rick, but would assume that his warrenty would still cover his knife, but might cost a fee to fix, if you were to take it apart.

Very nice knife, Burkstar. Thanks for the info. I may have to give Rick a call, I just didn't want to disturb him simply to ask questions. I am still curious if he uses a pivot bushing as does the Sebenza or not. Thanks again.

I'm with BurkStar as far as Rick's quality. I have my Firetac in my pocket (and another one on order) and a couple of sebbies at home. It's much more comfortable IMHO than a large sebbie and a bit bigger than a small. Just the right size. Plus no BGT (Big Grey ****)(Oops, I didn't consider t*rd a cuss word) syndrom. I used to change my EDC daily but since I got the FireTac there is only one in my pocket all the time.
Rick was extremely nice to correspond with and he answered my dumb questions without a problem. (I had him put a false edge on top of the one on order so I don't get in trouble in IL)

Can someone please post a pic of the Firetac? Sounds like an awesome knife but I have never seen one. Thanks!

*Drool drool slurp slurp....just when I thought I had seen beautiful knives....Thanks for the link Kamkazmoto...guess it's time to start saving for a new knife! ;)

I've done 'em both and now carry a Firetac Extreme (4.25" blade). I would say that both are easily taken down and reassembled, although the Sebenza is probably the easiest, with three screws and all the same size. Don't know nuthin 'bout no stinkin warrantee!!!

Here's my first Hinderer FireTac in between a couple of sebbies for size comparison. The bottom small sebbie just got back from Matt Cucchiara. He did the Fire Fizz on it and it looks sweet. I would have posted a pic of it sooner but I can't seem to take a decent one. Top one is the large unique that I use occasionally.

Hello Richard,
Concerning my Flashover model, and for that matter all my models,My warranty covers everything! Take the knife apart,no problem! I do not charge anything to put it back together. I use a type of standoff that is very easy to take out and put back in.I do use a standard type of pivot. All the holes in the handles and standoffs are drilled with cnc to insure very tight tollerance's,so when you take it apart it goes back together in the exact same place, insureing the knife will operate the same way you got it.If i can help you with any questions please dont hesitate to call me,or email me. My number is 330-263-0962
Thanks everyone for the kind comments!!

Rick Hinderer

Does anyone have any pictures of the Flashover compared to the Small Sebenza?? (side-by-side, a view from the top to compare thickness, comparing length) Or any pictures of the Flashover in hand?? (i.e. compared to the size of your hand, and how well it fits your hand?)

The Flashover looks like a very good competitor to the Small Sebenza

Damn you kamkazmoto, don't post links like that, now there is a whole extra range of knives I want but can't afford. Have some pity man, think of my bank balance .... ;)

Started reading this one before realizing it was not current....ran across my reply back in Sept/2004...... but nothing has changed about the great qualilty of Ricks knives. I now have two of the Extreme's with a third on order! To be it speaks volumes about Rick'sd work!!

I don't have a small sebenza, if I remember right the Flashover is a little bit thicker. Here's a pic anyway, hope this helps.

I've been wanting a small Sebbie, have a large Mayonized classic, but that Flashover looks really nice. Beefier too. I think I know where my $$ are going. Then I'll have 2 folders.

Flashover looks like an awesome knife i agree. I am thinking i want to order one soon, but i would still like to see some pics comparing the Small Sebenza to the Flasover, i am especially interested in length difference and thickness difference.

Thanks for the pic schluterc, looks like you got a nice knife there!
