On or off? I cannot decide to leave them on or off. After awhile, they get stinky, and I cannot figure how to tie them. Do they add to the sebenza and give it the, do not know what words to use.

the instructions to re-tie the laynyard are posted on the CRK website.

i prefer the look of the sebbie without the lanyard but i use mine with gloves on all the time and the lanyard makes it easier to get out of my pocket so i leave it on.

personal preference i guess. try it with and without and see which appeals to you.

just my 2 pennies:o

I like the lanyard on my Sebbie as well. That was my thinking too, that it would be easier to get out of my pocket with gloves on. Unlike some, it does not interfere with putting it in my pocket either. I really like this particular lanyard too.

I looked at the knot on their website and it turned out to be a good old-fashioned hangmans noose. It's about the easiest lanyard to tie.

The lanyard just gets in my way, so the first thing I do when I receive a Sebenza is to remove it.

I vote no lanyard, it makes the knife's profile slimmer and more pocketable. But you can't avoid that fact that you can fish it out easier, so if the utility was critical, I'd leave it on.

I don’t like lanyards on the vast majority of the folders I own. On the Sebenza though, a lanyard seems to work pretty well. IMO, it helps a lot in drawing the knife from your pocket and it doesn’t get in the way when you close the blade or grip the handle further back towards the clip end.

It may seem like a minor point, but a pet peeve of mine is when knife makers just randomly drill a lanyard hole through the handle without any consideration as to how it’s incorporated into the overall knife design. (The Spyderco Scorpius, with its “dolphin eye”, is a particularly egregious and humorous example of this.) With the Sebenza, it appears to me that some thought went into the placement and function of its lanyard hole.

Lanyard on. I never carried a pocket knife with a lanyard attatched before my Sebbie, but I love it. The only problem is it's getting frayed and I don't know where to get more black cord to retie it!

I have tied lanyards on all my other knives after being introduced to them on my sebenza. I like the look and the easy access it allows to my knife when in my pocket as others have said. Theres also the fact that I always have a bit of extra cord when I need it or need the extra security of not dropping my knife if I am cutting where it could be lost.

Smegmalicious,
I use small cord from my local climbing shop to tie lanyards, military paracord works well and is available in a variety of colors. On some of the climbing cord I cut it and pulled out the center threads and burn the ends to stop it from fraying. Pulling the center allows the cord to wrap more easy and lay flatter, and it still serves its purpose.

I like the lanyard on Sebbies. I've learned to tie that knot (it took a few tries) and now I'm not scared to try different types of cord. I like the bootlace cord I got from a RedWing shoe store- it is two-tone brown/black and looks really good on my Mammoth Bark sebbie. The ivory looks similiar to an oak inlay and the bootlace cord compliments it well.

Lanyard on. I use the original black cord on my large Sebbies, but replaced the original with a black leather thong on the small. The small rides in my Mission wallet, though, so it's more of a decoration than utilitarian.

Don't need a lanyard on my Sebbie!
It sees so much use that it doesn't make sense (for hygenic reasons)to tie a lanyard every 3/4days.

It's easier with cleaning and lubing too!!!

I found interesting types of cord at a local REI store in their climbing section. This knife has a lanyard made from some thin, colored rope I got there. It’s similar to paracord.

Lanyard on all my knives. Different colors and sized cords, but all with the same basic Chris Reeve knot.

I have one Classic MM Sebenza that I bought w/o lanyard, and keep it that way. My large and small regular I leave the lanyards on. It's a little easier to pull the knife out with a lanyard. The downside is that it's easier for someone else to pull it out of your pocket, too. When I first started carrying my small Sebenza to work, one of my friends thought it was great fun to try and slide it out of my pocket. He came too close several times before I dissuaded him from trying again. So, if you're at a public event where the pickpocket threat is high, you might consider dropping the knife completely into your pocket. I think when I talked to Chris a long time ago, before he started adding pocket clips, the original idea of the lanyard was to enable you to pull the knife out of your pocket, and to add a useful piece of paracord as a design signature like the the OPR. Of course, time fuzzes all memories, and I could be mistaken. Maybe Chris (or more likely Anne) will provide us with a design history lesson sometime. I always find it interesting to know what the designer intended, and what he learned. And with Chris, we have a very subtle and talented designer.
