I leave mine on. Helps pull out the knife. At first I thought that they were corny but since using them, I found that I like them on.

I remove them also. You can't leave them on if you want them to fit in one of Gary's excelent sheaths! One of the best ways to compliment any Sebenza!!

Just got my Sebbie less than an hour ago, and the lanyard was off within 10 minutes. I really didn't see a need for it, and looked like it might get in the way.

Large Classic - clip off - lanyard on (it sits deep in my pocket, so the lanyard gives me something more to grab)

Small Classic - clip on - lanyard off (it's clipped onto my pocket so it's easy to reach)

Umfaam - lanyard on (use it to pull it out of my pocket and out of its sheath)

Lanyard off.

I carry my Sebenza in a belt pouch, accessible at the pivot end. The lanyard would get in the way, down inside the pouch. If I thought I might drop the knife in water or deep snow I'd probably use a different knife.

Stop when you get to bone.

Having matching G2 sheaths for a large and small Sebenza... I leave the laynards ON. Easier to get them out of the sheaths... Clips are history...

Hello,

the lanyard was in the way when I was throwing my Baby Sebenza...

Throwing or not throwing that is the question !

cheers,
JM

I leave the lanyard on. I also have one of gary's sheaths and i find it helps in removal from the sheath. the clip is history.

Nemo:
Do you throw the knife like spear or do you throw it end over end, holding it by the handle as you stated in a previous thread? Can you throw it accurately? Does it hurt the knife? I'm curious because all the knife makers state that their knives are not meant to be thrown. Sounds like fun to me but I would hesitate to throw such an expensive knife.

SOrry if I hurting your sensibility. ;-D

But I throw the Sebenza holding it by the handle.
It's a very nice flyer and so far it's brend new.
I don't say the Sebenza is a throwing knife and made to be thrown but in some very "strange/extreme" situation it can fill that bill.

If you want I will send a picture of my small Sebenza which has been used and abused since last october.
no big scratches on the handle (I don't throw my Sebenza on concrete and jump on it because it's a tough knife!)

I remember a test made in Blade magazine when Kim Breed used a maul to stick the sebenza into wood. Al other folder he tried he detsroyed them but the Sebneza (it was a classic ATS34 one)
He get much more problem to remove it from the wood that to stick it inside.

ANother knife which is good to throw is the Out Edge Magna designed by Kit Carson.
But for example, the Wegner Junior is not throwing friendly...

Just my two cents, and if you could see what Fred Perrin is throwing, you would have an heart attack.

I change mine from time to time, but when I do carry it with a laynard I dont care for the standard black. I like to personalize it with my own choice of multi color cord.
I went with this color because I like the way it goes with the blue on the thumb stud & the back spacer on my knife. While I was at it I had my Shadow III match it.

I recently replaced the lanyard with a metal key ring. I know it's ugly but the other day I was fishing in a canoe and I had some loose fitting nylon pants on and the small sebbie slipped out. I didn't even know it. Luckily I found it in the bottom of the canoe. Now I use a quick release clip I got in a fly fishing store hooked to the sebbie key ring and tied to a string attached to a belt loop. When I'm in the field, that's the way I carry it.

BTW, the key ring is just small enough it doesn't interfere with the blade. Had to hunt around for one that was just the right size.

Elvislives. Your a clown. I couldn't stop laughing...

Lanyard on for me. In the field it's laced through a belt loop for security reasons. I'm not loosing this puppy for nuttin'!

Generally, ON.

Fob tucked in pocket if there is much risk of potential theft.

Out, if one wants to meet other knifeknuts, or possibly create new ones...who else wants to talk knives.

Fob out if I am using it a lot.

[An former police office, who worried about his getting stolen and tucked in his fob, made me more concious of potential risk of it being easy for a pick pocket to grab.]
