Am I alone on this? I just love the threads on what we all carry everyday, especially the ones that show pictures of it all.

To the point...Why do so many of the pictures show what appear to be new blades and guns? If you carry it everyday, it's going to show wear. Blued guns get worn, knife blades get scratched, etc. My personal carry stuff is not abused, but it sure shows wear.

Now, before anyone thinks I'm on some kind of high horse here, I do realize the pics might be of new toys that have not been carried as of yet or you change carry items soooo often they don't get abused. I also realize that some of these threads are fantasy as well. Some of my knives and guns are rarely carried, so of course they look new, so I'm no different.;)

Maybe I should've started a thread and asked for pics of used knives and guns, instead of upsetting anyone here. So, care to post some pictures of used stuff??

Since I have no camera, I'm no different in that this is all talk and no walk. Sue me.:D

So, am I alone on this?

Dave, another aspect here is that we're knife knuts. I have a bunch of EDC's, and I'm really fickle about loyalty. My favorite is usually the newest; I carry it all day and then knifesturbate with it while watching TV. I touch it up with the Edgepro, put moly grease in the pivot, and Tuff-Cloth the finish. This goes on for a few weeks, maybe a month. Then a new toy catches my eye, and I do the whole thing all over. Of course, the now "old" knife still looks new.

My latest flight of fancy involves all of those black, tactical knives. I'm getting a "been there, done that" sort of feeling. My new EDC (and favorite) is a 3.5 inch 154-CM clip point with a cast aluminum handle that seems to have a purple cast in the light. Of course my EDC looks new, it IS new!

(Sigh)I don't have a stone-washed EDC. Maybe next month.

You're not alone:) There was a thread last year about well-used knives. Here's a link, but most of the photos don't work anymore.

Consider this: I've scanned a bunch of my blades, and because the blade is not flat on the scanner (and I guess I'm not good at making scans) most of the scratches don't show up. This is especially true of blasted surfaces, like the grind on a DDR knife, or the handle of a Sebenza. I can scan my small Seb, and you can see a few of the scratches on the blade. The handle, which is so covered in scratches it looks stonewashed too, looks brand new in my scans, even though it is flat on the scanner.
I know my scans aren't great, but look....
The large Sebenza is almost new and only has a few scratches. The small's handle is one big scratch. I don't see much difference in my scan:(

Thanks for the speedy replies. Ichabod, I admit to bordering on what you said. If I were made of money, I'd be the biggest offender.

OwenM, thanks for reminding me that not all pics are clear in showing the true condition of the knife. It's cool that you actually use your Sebenza.

There is just something about a well-used knife or gun that speaks of loyalty and history. One of my often carried knives has seen quite a bit of action and although I don't carry it anymore, when I handle it, memories come back to me. I just love that.

Please keep the "used" pictures coming. Thanks.

Dave, I definitely think that you've hit the nail right on the unabused head. ;)

Oh. . .and I too enjoy seeing and hearing about the knives of other knife knuts ! :D

I really don't do too much heavy cutting, and I always give my blades a quick wipe after cutting anything, so they usually go quite a while before getting damaged at all.

Here's a pic of my EDCs, hopefully. First try using ImageStation...

You can see (I hope) that the LaGriffe has a couple marks on the finish, and my BM43 is fairly scuffed up. With the Whirlwind, though, I'm still in the stage where I'll wipe fingerprints off the blade as soon as I notice them (every time I open the thing). I'm tempted to stab some aluminum cans with it just so I can be free of the curse of a spotless blade! (there was some crud on the scanner; that's not the blade)

edit: ah, poo, it won't show.

further edit: Maybe a link to the album. There's only the one pic in there now, anyway.
Or copy-paste " http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292065959" into your browser.

yet another edit: Looks like that will work. If anyone is as unfamiliar with ImageStation as I am, it looks like you'll have to click on the picture several times to actually view it at full size.

How about this for every day carry:

S&W Bodyguard (Metal life finish) since 1982

MT LCC for about 9 months.

I'm not sure how common this is, but my pictures generally look new because I take them when I first get a knife. I rarely go back and take new pictures of a knife when I've got good ones already. So when I post a photo of an EDC you are not always seeing it in its current condition.

Even so, most of my knives don't show their use very much. I take pretty good car of them and they stay pretty. :)

Like bquinlan said, I take the pics when the knife is new.
Also some guys send the knife back to the maker after awhile and get it refinished. Been carrying my ATCF since 99 and using it but most of the small scratches dont show up on my scanner.
I use it, dont abuse it. For really nasty stuff that marks a knife up bad, I carry a cheaper folder.

I have about 30 EDC knives, and I am a manager in a high-tech company. The only knives I own that show wear are my trainers and the beaters that I use for yardwork.

My keyboard looks like hell though. ;)
