Do any of you Knife Knuts out there use the Sentry Solutions Tuf-cloth to care for your knives? I had a question in regards to the mineral spirits that my marine Tuf-cloth is supposed to be recharged with.
I was told to use mineral spirits, not turpentine, from a hardware store to dampen the cloth once it began to "dry" up. Is this true? If it is, does it matter which brand, whether odorless or not, etc.?

Thanks, in advance, for your input.

It works for a few times. Use very little, you just want to moisten the cloth, not drench it. You can get orderless mineral sprits at any hardware store.

I have the Tuf-Glide 1/2 oz. bottle for lubing, cleaning, and protecting the pivot action on my knives. But that stuff isn't cheap, I paid $8 for that little sucker!!

Anyways, thanks for the feedback.:D

let's take Benchmade for example... approximate DISCOUNTED price of any random Benchmade is about a hundred dollars.. for that price you can buy 12 bottles of Tuf-Glide and have enough money left over for a Big-Mac.

Also, a bottle of the stuff lasts forever. I've used the same bottle for the past 9 months on knives, guns, and tools.

You got a point there, MelancholyMutt. My Tuf-Glide is sometimes used along with the cloth, and the bottle is still full. I guess that I was just looking at the price of the Tuf-Glide (1/2 oz.-$8) compared to mineral spirits (32 oz.-$2.47).:D

We posted the exact same thing at the exact same minute....

That's some sort of Zen thing...LOL

I bought a 8 ounce bottle of Tuf-glide for $18.95 at KnifeCenter. A lot more economical than buying it in the 1/2 ounce "precision applicator" and it's enough to last me for years!

Yep, it sure is more economical going that route. I had to get the 1/2 oz., because that is all that a local dealer had in stock. I won't do that again. ;)

Tuff-Cloth is just a piece of durable, lintless cloth saturated with Tuff-Glide.

Tuff-Glide is mostly mineral spirits.

So, you can rewet a Tuff-Cloth with mineral spirits just fine. But, every third or forth time you should resaturate it with Tuff-Glide to replenish the active ingredients.

Marine Tuff-Cloth just has a somewhat higher concentration of active ingredient. Marine Tuff-Cloths should be resaturated with Tuff-Glide aboute every other time.

Yep, use Tuf-cloth on all my knives.... I kinda like the smell!
Sorta like using a magic marker or something.

4 st er: Yes I too buy it in the big 8 oz bottle. It is a good savings over those little tiny bottles.

Mongo: You are not the only one that kind of likes the smell. It is a bit addicting (and no, I am not a 15 year old glue sniffer!). I have been trying to figure out what the smell reminds me of and you are 100% correct: it reminds me of a magic marker!!!

I suppose that I should have looked into getting the 8 oz. bottle, it turns out that the reason my 1/2 oz. was a little more costly, is because it's the "precision applicator". I don't mind though, I would've eventually got it anyway. ;)
