Ok. I bought one, I like it very much. One question...what is VG10 and how does it compare to all the other new steels?

This is from the BLADE magazine September 2000 issue. VG-10 contains the following;
carbon--0.95/1.05

chromium--14.50/15.50

manganese--0.50

molybdenum--0.90/1.20

vanadium--0.10/0.30

Hope this helps

Many people compare VG-10 to AUS 8 in that it takes an extremely sharp edge very easily, but VG-10 is a much more durable steel. i heard once that it was originally developed in Japan as a steel for horticulturalists grafting knives. Spyderco uses it on the big Calypso and the Calypso jr. lightweight, the Shabaria and their Moran fixed blade. I believe Falkniven uses it for all of their models. Finally, Beretta uses VG-10 on some of their high end knives. I just remembered, William henry uses VG-10 on their new imported line.
