I have seen this word before, and didn't really know what it meant until I read the thread about the fire kit. Survive Escape Resist Evade. Is that meant for people who travel to 3rd world countries? Just curious about the philosophy behind that, and BTW, very interested.

To Life--

The SERE knife we are doing got started when several Air Force SERE instructors asked us to build a specific knife for them.

The school we teach in South America encompasses part of the SERE philosophy / training. We don't teach Resistance or Escape, but we do teach the Survive and part of the Evade portion since the two go together in many ways.

Travel to 3rd World countries is not the reason for a SERE program. SERE is designed for the military professional operating in various environments around the world, however the SERE principles can be used for anyone. We suggest that anyone who travels to foreign countries study such a program in case of kidnap or other things that can happen to you. Hell, that can even happen here in the United States, so learning about SERE can be nothing but good.

The Air Force SERE program is for training aircrews on how to get out of Dodge if they get shot down.

For the survivalists who see an apocalyptic end of world scenario in their lifetimes, this is probably a better program to train themselves by than the more popular Special Forces direct-action training.

Interesting. How would a non-LEO or non-military person get training in such things? Not sure I'm ready to go to a jungle in S. America to train. Anything else?

I am really excited for the sere to come out. It sounds awesome  I don't own any RAT (the real one) knives yet but I am going to order the rc-4 as soon as I get a little extra money. The sere knife sounds ridiculous though and is definitely on my list :D

The RC-5 SERE is too thick and heavy for our uses, but some folks like that.

I understand why they wanted it that thick, but for me, a SERE knife would spec closer to the RC-6, perhaps with the high scandi grind. Also considering how (in)frequently the SERE kits actually get used, I probably would have spec'ed it in stainless.
