Deadly Weapons cache seized

Sellers and Makers beware. :(

Has anybody ever had any problems like this? Is this an uncommon occurence?

I've sent a knife to AUS as well as knifemaking supplies (more going out tomorrow, in fact) and have received knives from there, but never had a problem. Just takes a long time.

Most countries, including the US, have lots of rules baning various sorts of knives. If a particular knife pushes the custom's buttons, they may take a dim view of everything being shipped. One bali in with a bunch of legal lockbacks might motivate officers to herculean efforts to flip open the lockbacks, allowing them to seize and keep the whole shipment.

One way to minimize risk is to ship more parcels. Nobody likes to do it, but a recent study showed that the majority of parcels being sent to Canada containing illegal firearms actualy made it to their recipients unchallenged. In order to ensure a long career, notwithstanding periodic interdictions, these weapons were sent to post office boxes, which are apparently a nightmare to surveil, and as a result the cops wouldn't even bother with the bait of a juicey firearms bust. Obviously this is the extreme other end of sending legal knives, but it shows how effective breaking up packages can be.

It's illegal to carry weapons in Canada, so anything deemed a weapon is suspect (though tons of tactical type things make it across even with inspections). Oz is certainly more restrictive on firearms than Can. can't say anything about their knife laws. Doubtless those with the specifics will enlighten us.

A FRIGHTENING, multi-bladed knife destined for Melbourne's streets was among a cache of weapons seized by Customs yesterday.

 Oh Brother !!!
It must be rough going from the wild and rugged Aussies to the laughing stock of the world.
This isn't intended to offend any of our members, just their government!

On that same page , under 'cover story' you'll see the story of a women who escaped from a man who had murdered her boy friend. I thought they had banned those evil handguns ! But of course they never seem to ban the bad guys !!!

This on a continent where everything there either tries to bite, sting, or eat you and they've banned all weapons except bolt action rifles, and single and double barreled shotguns; not even pump shotguns are allowed now, God forbid a pistol of any sort. Canada is falling right in behind'em. Go figure. Of course a "weapon" of that sort is laughable in the first place.

Someone in the community forum was talking about this too, and under all the links to those knife like objects it said they were designed by Tom Anderson. That can't be the same Tom Anderson who's a member here and makes all the cool framelocks is it

Bruce and Peter - you're in the wrong business
I think I'll leave things like that to ...um...er....more talented people Daniel! :barf:

Sorry, guys.

Didn't intend to offend anyone.

 why would you say that Tom?

is that you selling out of Scotch Plains, NJ ?
you are out of PA right.. come on give up the ship

are you are same Tom  :)

Those are my designs. I have nothing to do with manufacturing them or distributing them.

The knives I make in my own shop are quite different. If you ever stopped by my table at a show you would know. If you would have contacted me directly, I would have told you - with the exception of those who refuse the courtesy of using thier full names in their correspondence. I'm fairly easy to get a hold of. I use my own name on all the forums.

Again, I apologize if any of my "fantasy" designs have offended anyone. That was not my intention.

No offense here, Tom.....but clearly the folks in AUS think differently.....

My comment (in an earlier post) was one of personal taste, and not a reflection of you and your folding knives, Tom. I hope you're not offended.

Australian law prohibits any knife with a double edged blade. That includes classic daggers, as well.

According to the report, the Critical Mass also has "two small flick-knife sized blades". I didn't realize that "flick" knives (automatics) all had a certain size blade. Then, again, I'm not that familiar with all the international knife laws.

Everybody is entitled to their opinions. I realize that different knives appeal to different people. Opinions usually don't hurt anyone. However, when you're dealing with facts - be sure to get them straight.

If you knew me (I guess 700+ posts here and 7 years of doing major shows aren't enough for some people), you'd realize that I have a sense of humor. You'd also realize that, many times I participate in the forums to help people. (Have you ever seen my on-line tutorials? According to my records, the frame-lock tutorial alone has over 1,500 hits.) Although I "goof off" sometimes, I don't come here to be "the man" or to increase my post count by only offering speculation and diatribe.

Do a search. Weigh the facts out carefully. Maybe then you can determine what I'm all about.

I don't think I need to apologize to my friends here who are reading this. You already know "what I'm all about." ;)
