I was wondering what tool i am suppopsed to use to sharpen my M16-12. and what angle should i be using. for a sharp (pretty much just stock angle but sharper..) grind

Look at the Spyderco Profile 701 stones (my preference). They are perfect for serrations and in my view, easier than the SM to use. Other good choices are the Lansky dogbone sharpeners or a wood dowel with sand paper wrapped around it.

I sharpen my serrated blades on the Sharpmaker. As far as the angle goes, I would use a black Sharpie marker on the serrations, then match that angle on the Sharpmaker, or whatever you end up using. Increase the angle just a tad, and you'll be at a good starting spot.

When they get really dull I have found a carbide cone shaped burr on a dremel is the ONLY way to restore them. You have to basically regrind them and THEN sharpen them.

I've found that the Lansky System's serrated stones work pretty well for me, if you already have the guide, it may be worth considering

This is exactly the way I do it Tom. It's the best method I've found.

I personally use a dmt red cone file. You can pick them up for about 20 bucks in some places, and you just hold your knife at the angle of the original serration, twist and push towards the blade about 4 or five times on each serration, then lightly run it across the back part of the serrations where the ridge will be one time and you are all set....I only own 1 unserrated knife and sharpening a knife like this may take me 30-60 seconds, unless its my pentagon, then it takes a few minutes

In moments of "tongue-in-cheek" ;) , some forum members recomend grinding out the serrations, then reprofiling the edge as a recurve. I dislike serrated edges and tried this suggestion out on a cheapie. To my astonishment, it works. :D:D
