Sharpening the spine?

I am interested in putting an edge on the "clip" part of the blade on my Gerber Yari. Is there any reason why I could not put an even grind on it with a file, then emory, and ultimately my Sharpmaker?
 
you can sharpen the swedge that way. you can build up a lot of heat fileing which could ruin the heat treat. so go slow. also you are working hardend steel. so you will have to test how hard the clip steel is. the file may just skip over the steel. then you need to move to a cermaic belt.
