SharpFusion

I picked up one of Brad's Sharpfusion D/A's a few days ago, and I am impressed with it. Although I have not done any heavy testing, I think my first impressions are that is resembles my talonite blades almost to a "T" except talonite is easier to sharpen, then on the other hand I have not had it long enough to tell edge retention compared to the talonite.
I know I am a little quick, but I did say first impression, and are more uses to test it compared to other talonite, and other blade steels as yet.
Like I said it is more difficult to sharpen, but I think after working with it for a few days on all my different sharpners that I have had the best luck with my Eze-Lap sharpners(especially moldel "M"). I tried my ceramics, strops, stones, etc., and the diamond works the best to get the toothy edge I like that is not to coarse, but gets a good bite on what I am cutting.
Sorry if I am not much in the info department, but just wanted to give my first impression, and so far very impressed what I have done with it(normal paper, and cardboard, small nylon rope, meat, and some whittling on small wood sticks).

I like it!!!!!

Just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck.

Well, now that the interest in SharpFusion is all revved up, I think it is time to let these alloys speak for themselves. Soon knives will be appearing with these blades and we will be getting reports from those that have them. After all that has gone on here on Bladeforums any member that gets one of these knives is going to tell all of us what he/she thinks of it.

I am excited about the possibilities that are presented by this technology when it comes to making blades. Hopefully it will live up to it's potential. We will soon see. I have my fingers crossed.

It's great to see the reports starting to come in. Hopefully you guys will keep us updated as you put your knives through the paces. It is nice to know that the first impressions are good, but it is how these knives hold up for the long haul that is going to be the most interesting.

Just wanted to respond to a couple of questions that have arised regarding SharpFusion TM.

1. Why Stellite? Because a very large portion of my customer base wants Stellite and I am a custom knifemaker.
I will offer several different types of Stellite alloys as well as several alloys outside of the Stellite family in the SharpFusion configuration.

Stellite is rapidly becoming one of the most popular blade materials available. This is an undisputable fact. Some makers will offer it and some will not.

2. Why Stellite SharpFusion? There are many reasons but I will only list one. I can offer my customers Snody SharpFusion blades at a fraction of the cost of Snody solid Stellite blades.

3. What is Stellite? Stellite is a name for a large family of wear resistant alloys. Each of the alloys in the Stellite family exhibits different properties. There are over a dozen different alloys. I am currently working with three of the Stellite alloys. It is important to look at the specific properties of the individual alloys as opposed to making generalized statements about Stellite. They are not all the same. The Rc is a dead giveaway.

4. Why didnt you have a "bunch" of SharpFusion blades ready before you posted? I am backlogged well over a year. I will never have a "bunch" of SharpFusion blades ready at one time.
They are going out now. I do not solicit posts on the forums. Never have, never will.

SharpFusion is not about Stellite or any specific alloy or family of alloys.

SharpFusion is not about any particular substrate or family of substrates be they ductile, spring tempered, stainless, carbon or synthetic.

SharpFusion is the concept of joining dissimilar alloys and or synthetics to form a high performance Hybrid knife blade. Imagination and determination are the only limiting factors.

Each SharpFusion combination will have to be judged on its on merits. It will be important to look at the specific properties of the Hybrid blade as opposed to making generalized statements.

Thanks for all of the emails and interest.

Thanks to everyone that posted, took the heat and helped to get the message out. You know who you are!

If anyone wants to see a SharpFusion Stellite Alloy#12 Hybrid Overlord (that is not for sale) stop by TADs table this weekend at the Bay Area Show.

Tell Josh you want to cut something with it.

I'm picking up one of Brad's sharpfussion folders tomorrow.:) I'll post some of my very unscientific impressions after i put it to some good use.

Guys, please feel free to post a review on the knives when they are ready. Mike opened this thread to make a statement and I think it was accomplished.

This is starting to get too much like an infomercial at this point so I am going to close it down.
