I recently got a Rooney style 3 size 1 in "super silvertip" and have been using it for about 2 weeks. It took me a while to figure out the right amount of water to leave in the brush before mixing up the cream, since this brush is smaller than my other one (Shavemac 429). The smaller knot on the Rooney didn't make much difference as to water-holding ability - this thing holds a lot of water. It really works like the dickens. I don't know what anybody would do with a size 3 in this model - whip up lather in a giant mixing bowl?

Let's hear some of your favorite brushes, I know there are a few of you wet-shavers around.

Walmart Wilkinson Sword Brush and German Razierkreem (sp?) are my favourite combo. I've tried higher end creams, etc but always come back to my little $6 blue tube from Germany.

Brush (ignore the bowl):

I've never tried Razierkreem, I'll have to look for that. I've had pretty good results with Speick, a german cream that only costs $6 or $7 a tube.

Have you ever tried a badger brush? When I switched from boar to badger it was like night and day.

I'm happy enough with a cheapo $6 VDH brush I don't feel the need to try anything better.

Here's the stuff:

And I'm game to try different brushes. Thanks for the tip.

Do most of you use creams? I use Van Der Hagen soap from Walgreens and the Bigelow cream from Bath and Body.

I primarily use Taylor's creams, they're the least expensive of the 3 "big-name" English Creams at only around $13 a tub. The only soap I use at this time is Tabac, a not-too-expensive german triple-milled soap. It has a great masculine smell, kinda puts you in mind of a Victorian English gentleman's library. Fine pipe tobacco and leather-bound books. It really gives a good shave.

Like my brush experience, I'm pretty limited in what I've used and my choices of creams and soaps found locally. I must say I'm so happy with the cheap $2 VDH soap that I will never use my canned stuff again. In fact I had a can or two left after I switched to the brush and soap and gave them to my wife and said use them up I'm not going to. I really like the Bigelow cream and wish there were more creams available around here. I guess I'll have to gamble and order some over the net one of these days.

I've got the B&B '06 finest silvertip in ebony, and use a variety of soaps, right now I am using a lavender that a cousin of mine poured, I have also tried Mama Bear soaps, which is really good, and a Rattlesnake oil soap that seemed to be OK but not great.

I am really enjoying my cousin's hand poured soap, it seems to lather as well as the creams that I have tried.

I came along too late to get the B&B 2006 brush, but it sure is a beauty. I can't wait to see the 2007 brush, should be announced any day now.

Ummmmm, just so you know, Razierkreem is just the German word for Shaving Soap/cream. ;)

Order early, and order often.

Or at least get your order in right away. If the shipping shapes up similar to last years' a couple of hours difference in when the order is placed may result in as much as a week's difference in shipping. These things are handmade so it takes longer to make them than it does to order them;)

There may be other brushes out there that are as good as the B&B, but I don't think that you can find one that good for the same price.

The English words "Razor" and "Cream" are close enough to "Rasier" and "Kreem" that it did seem weird until I saw the picture RLR provided. It shows the word Rasiercreme much larger than the brand name "Florena", so I can see how it could appear to be a brand name.

You guys are giving me the urge to whip out my old shaving kit. I don't have anything fancy, just a Burma Shave brush and either Burma Shave or Williams (I think that's the name) soap from Wally World and a couple of old safety razors (Wilkinsons) that belonged to my Grandpa, a fixed one and a smaller take-down travel model. I think the blades are Gillette double edgers (don't have the kit in front of me) also from W-M.

Just looked and I was wrong on several counts. New blades are Schick and the razors are both Gillettes (they had some old Wilkinson Sword blades with them, hence the confusion).
