This is an update and recap about the spare sheaths that Auntie Yangdu is selling for $20 to directly benefit the HI knifemakers in Nepal.

Anonymous donors have enabled the acquisition of several hundred of these made-in-USA sheaths (the remaining stock from Camillus).
The sheaths have been modified to fit most HI khukuris in the 15"-18" range (see Fit Information below).

Yangdu now has all of these modified sheaths to sell, and she will apply the full $20 purchase price to the Kami Medical Emergency Fund which she oversees. This fund helps the Kamis and Sarkis get treatment for medical emergencies so they can get back to work and provide for their families.

To get one (or more) of these sheaths, email Yangdu at HIMIMP@aol.com
They can be added to a khukuri order and be shipped at no extra charge, or shipped alone with some postage costs added.

Fit Information: here's a quick summary of the knives which fit in this sheath.
More details and photos can be found in the links below.

We try to keep stickies here to a minimum. I will add a link to this in the "Announcements and Happenings" section.

Thank you for the post and help, Steve

Steve,
You started something very good here, and your good works seem to have inspired some of the other great folks here to help in the grand effort.!!
The HI forum has always seemed to attract good folks with big hearts. It is great to see the trend continue.
BTW, the sheaths are a great way to slim your carry khuk down for more streamlined carry. I love my three!!;)
You folks are the best!:D

Is there any update on the fund so far. I have bought a couple of sheaths and have made a habit of adding $10 or so to every order I place (and I tend to order frequently), with instructions to put it toward the Kami Emergency Medical Fund. Having an idea of approximately how much money has been collected might inspire others to add extra money to an order for the fund.

Are there any still available, have a old pre WWII kurkri I purchased with out a sheath and would love to get one for it... not sure it would fit but it might be worth a try

Yes, Yangdu has a couple hundred of these sheaths, already modified and ready to ship. The feedback from people who bought this sheath show that it generally fits up to around 18" overall length (or longer with some unsharpened blade exposed behind the cho).

This would be a question for Yangdu to address. I like your idea of having a running total of funds collected to date, similar to some other fundraisers.

Another potential way to provide feedback would be to detail the health problems encountered and how the fund was used to address the issue.

Greetings to All, So far I have sold 50 Kami Medical Emergency Fundraiser sheths and collected $1000.00 Sarki Sagar got well and return to work.
Thank you all for your continue supports to HI and Kamis.

Glad to hear about Sarki Sagar's progress Yangdu. Also good to hear that the first 50 sheaths have sold and that support from the Forum is going strong.
Peace to all.
Rick

Here's the latest update (from another thread):
This is to let you know all that I have sold 92 KMF sheaths and collected $1840.
I have received extra $150 donation from HI customers and friends for KMF. We spent $350 for Kami and Sarki medical expenses for this month. Rest of the money will be well use for Kamis and Sarki's upcoming medical expenses.
Pala,Kamis, Sarki and HI would like to thank you all for your generosity and help,

May God Bless you All!

The fundraiser sheaths are still available (until they're not). They're not.
UPDATE FROM YANGDU, 8-4-2014
...I am completely sold out the KMFR sheaths...

Only $20 each and 100% goes to the medical fund (since it all was donated),

Some more testimonials:

"I always get the Kami medical sheaths. She still has them and they are a great value."
-- Bawanna, 1-2-14

"The medical relief fund sheath that I used worked very well and was quite comfortable even after 200 miles of hiking to and from work sites."
-- Issun, 4-5-13

"Got 2 KMEF sheaths today ... WOW!!! I don't see how they are making money by charging 20 dollars for these sheaths.... Very durable, high quality sheath... Fit my CAK & WWII pretty much spot on... much more practical than the traditional sheaths! Thanks HI for making such hi quality items very affordable!"
-- Heespharm, 11-24-12

"The KMEF sheaths are good and they're only $20."
-- Browning A Bolt, 11-12-12

"For purely practical use the KMFR sheath is ideal."
-- bric, 8-31-11

"A good "beater" sheath for a good cause... These leather fundraiser sheaths are actually lined with a very thin, hard plastic sheet that is sewn to the leather to protect it from the edge while inserting the knife, I imagine, and it should keep moisture from the leather off the steel... Similar-looking sheaths may be found elsewhere, but be aware that these fundraiser sheaths have already been modified to fit the thick blades of HI khuks (the standard snaps were otherwise too tight)."

Let me add something blasphemous.
For actual carry I prefer these sheaths over the traditional ones. Just drop the knife in and close it or pull it out very easily. Cleaning these new sheaths should be a breeze (never plan to get dirt into any sheath but you never know)
The original ones hole is too small at times and with the curve one has to pay lots of attention when drawing the knife or putting it back. Without being careful it's easy to mess up ones sheath or even hand.
The modern sheaths also don't have poky metal tips and are very flat.
However I like the original ones looks and how the hold karda and chakma.
Both have different things going for them so it comes down to personal choice and preferences.
Good to have options.
