This has probably been aired here before, but here goes....

I know knifemakers are primarily concerned with putting out quality blades but a user blade's utility is greatly diminished when the sheath that accompanies it fails to function well. Now for the real kicker. I think makers using kydex exclusively are copping out, to a degree. (It's plastic for cryin' out loud!)I have three kydex sheaths for three different knives. IMHO, kydex has a place when you are trying to accomplish a specific mode of carry or deal with a specific environment. A proper leather sheath, again IMHO, is better for general use in that it is quiet, secure when properly made, does not scratch the blade, and is much more friendly to the user. That said, I think Becker is on to something with the CU/7 sheath.
When makers first started using kydex, I thought, "That's cool!" Well, the gee whiz factor has faded. Now, somebody out there is gonna say, "Quit your gripin' and go get a sheath made!" Okay fine, but now my knife is out of my hands for who knows how long. Is it too much to ask for a knife to come with a nice, well-thought out sheath?
