As most of you already know kamis are born into the caste and the trade. Various clans have various ideas as to what and how khukuris should be made. Most clans put a lot of emphasis on blade and not so much on handle. Some clans put equal emphasis on both blade and handle. Kumar and Sher, brothers, come from a clan that tries to make a handle as well as they do a blade and it shows.
Sher conducted a clinic at BirGorkha on how an M43 should be made and he sent two results. Pictured is one of them. The twin is also available and not a dime's worth of difference in the two.
This excellently done khukuri is 18 inches and 25 ounces, 3/8" thick and 2 & 1/8 wide max. Fit and finish are as close to perfect as you can get doing it by hand. Hardness is near 60 Rc. Has convex edge very well done. Has fuller like an AK for weight control and balance. Feels light as a feather in the hand. Handle is perfect -- beautiful and feels great. Steel mountings are polished up and look better than silver. M43 style karda and chakma very well done. Perfect scabbard by village sarki.
Two ready to go at $145. An Uncle Bill recommended best buy.
